Chapter 22 - Chapter19.1 — Jun’s Truth

Harit's gaze was sharp, unrelenting, as he faced Jun across the empty room. The city lights outside cast long shadows through the tall windows, but inside, the tension was suffocating. Jun fidgeted, his eyes avoiding Harit's, voice barely above a whisper.

"You've been hiding a lot, Jun," Harit said slowly, voice controlled but icy. "Start talking. Now."

Jun swallowed hard. "I… I need you to understand first… it's not just about me. It's… it's about my father. And… the families."

Harit's brow furrowed. "Families? What are you talking about?"

Jun took a deep breath, clenching his fists. "My father… he's ruthless. He always wanted more power, more control. And he… he hated your family."

Harit's eyes narrowed. "Go on."

"He told me," Jun continued, voice trembling slightly, "that if I wanted his approval, if I wanted to belong to him, I had to do exactly as he said. Obey. Follow orders. Do whatever he wanted. No matter what. He said, 'Jun, if you make the Harit family suffer, if you remove every obstacle, only then will I recognize you as my son.'"

Harit's chest tightened. "So… all this time, your actions were because of him? To hurt my family?"

Jun shook his head quickly. "No… not exactly. I wanted him to see me, yes. To be recognized. That was the beginning. But then… then I met you." His voice softened, almost breaking. "And everything changed. I didn't just see you as a target or a tool anymore. I… I started to understand what love was. What loyalty was. What it meant to care about someone beyond power, beyond manipulation."

Harit's expression softened slightly, though his eyes were still stormy. "You… you learned love from me? Through all this chaos?"

Jun nodded, voice low. "Yes. Being with you… seeing your honesty, your integrity… I realized my father was wrong. That I didn't have to follow his rules blindly. That I could… I could care about someone without using them or hurting them."

Harit exhaled slowly. "Then why… why did you kidnap Ren? Why harm him?"

Jun's hands shook as he lowered his head. "Because… because Ren became the middle. He… he was in the way. I saw how close you were to him, how much you cared. And… I thought… if Ren wasn't there, maybe… maybe I could finally be the one you depended on. The one you needed."

Harit's jaw tightened. "So, your jealousy, your obsession… it all came from your father's manipulation, and then… your own fear?"

Jun's voice cracked. "Yes… and I hated myself for it. I didn't want to hurt you, not really. I just… I couldn't control it. My father's words haunted me for years. He made me believe that nothing I did was enough unless I destroyed his enemies. Unless I made your family suffer. And then… I thought removing Ren would give me what I wanted."

Harit's fists clenched at his sides. "So, all this chaos, all this suffering… it was your father's plan that twisted you. And you almost lost yourself to it."

Jun nodded miserably. "Yes. I almost became the person he wanted me to be… cruel, manipulative, blind to feelings. But being with you… I learned what it meant to care for someone. I saw what it meant to love… and I couldn't bring myself to truly hurt you. That's why… I didn't go all the way with my father's plan. I stopped myself… until… Ren became the obstacle again. I thought… if he wasn't there, maybe I could finally… I don't know…"

Harit's gaze softened, a mixture of anger and understanding burning in his eyes. "You let your father's obsession control you for so long, Jun. And even after realizing what love was, you still let fear and jealousy make you make terrible choices."

Jun bowed his head, trembling. "I know. I can't undo what I did. But I want you to understand… I never wanted to hurt you. I never wanted to destroy you. My father's influence… it was all I knew. And when I saw Ren… I thought he was the middle… the one standing between me and you. That's why I kidnapped him. That's why I… caused harm. I thought… if I removed him, maybe I could have a chance."

Harit's breathing was steady, but his eyes never left Jun. "You made your choice, Jun. You acted on it. And people got hurt. You have to live with that, no matter what manipulation your father forced on you."

Jun looked up, eyes glistening. "I know. And I'll face it. I'll face everything. But I needed you to know the truth. I needed you to see… my father's manipulation, the reason behind my actions, and why I… I almost destroyed everything."

Harit exhaled slowly, the tension in the room thick but shifting. "I see now. Your father used you, twisted your loyalty, and made you believe that hurting others was the only way to gain love and recognition. And instead, you found someone you cared about… but fear made you act against that care."

Jun nodded silently, tears rolling down his face. "Yes… that's exactly it. And I… I never wanted to hurt you. Not you… not Ren. But… I failed."

Harit's expression hardened again, though a small flicker of understanding remained. "You've revealed the truth now, Jun. But know this—your father's manipulation ends with you. You are responsible for your actions, not him. And if you ever think about harming the people I care about again… I won't hesitate."

Jun lowered his head, voice barely audible. "I understand. I… I'll accept the consequences. I'll live with them. I just… I wanted you to know. The truth. All of it."

Harit's eyes softened fractionally, a mixture of anger, disappointment, and understanding. "The truth is out now, Jun. Don't let your father's shadow control you anymore. Learn from this. And maybe… one day, you can redeem yourself. But it won't be easy."

Jun nodded slowly, tears streaking his face. "I'll try… I swear I will. I… I don't want to hurt anyone else. I don't want to be a pawn anymore. Not for him… not for anyone. Just… please believe me when I say I never wanted to hurt you, Harit. You… you showed me what love really is."

Harit's gaze softened slightly, though his anger still lingered. "I hear you, Jun. But words are one thing. Actions… are another. Let's see if you can live up to them."

Jun nodded, a small spark of hope breaking through the darkness that had clouded his life for so long. For the first time, he felt the weight of his father's manipulation lift slightly, replaced by a chance to make things right… and perhaps, to truly learn what it meant to care, without fear or obligation.
