Chapter 31 - 6.4-The Performance That Breaks Silence

The grand theater glowed like a jewel against the night.

Crowds lined the entrances, ticket numbers printed across marquees flashing:

SOLD OUT

Lian Xuan stood in the wings, adjusting his cuffs with unusual tension. There were always nerves before a performance, but tonight felt different.

Too electric.

Yu Zhen waited nearby, holding the music folio he had arranged personally for this concert, including the newly finished duet ending they had discovered together.

"You've practiced it a hundred times," Yu Zhen said gently.

"I know," Lian Xuan replied.

Then, quietly:

"But this time I feel… exposed."

Yu Zhen stepped closer.

"That means you're playing honestly."

They shared a brief embrace, arms wrapping around each other amid curtains and cables.

For a moment, Lian Xuan rested his forehead against Yu Zhen's shoulder.

"Stay where I can see you."

Yu Zhen smiled softly.

"Always."

[SOUL THREAD: RESONANCE HEIGHTENED]

[MEMORY FRAGMENT 6: PRE-AWAKENING: 78%] Under the Stage Lights

Lian Xuan stepped onto the stage to thunderous applause.

The audience settled into silence as he took his seat at the grand piano.

The opening notes floated, controlled and precise as ever.

Then came the second movement.

The melody Yu Zhen had struggled with for years.

This time, as Lian Xuan played, something changed.

The music softened…

Warmed…

The unresolved chord unfolded not as tension, but as yearning.

Yu Zhen stood behind the stage curtains, breath caught in his throat.

Every note vibrated along their soul-thread.

Lian Xuan's eyes closed mid-performance.

And memory surged.

[MEMORY FRAGMENT 6: FINAL SYNCHRONIZATION TRIGGERED]

He saw Yu Zhen leaning over the divine strings of cosmic instruments. Their hands brushed before catastrophe tore heaven apart. The final unfinished note, left unsung because Yu Zhen fell.

The connection snapped into clarity.

The melody finished at last.

And tears slid quietly down Lian Xuan's cheeks as his last chord rang fully resolved.

The theatre erupted into applause.

The Moment Backstage

Yu Zhen reached him the second he stepped offstage.

They collided into each other, a fierce embrace amidst the clamour of congratulations.

Lian Xuan clung to him without shame now.

"I remember," he whispered, voice trembling.

Yu Zhen inhaled shakily.

"How much?"

"Enough."

He pulled back just long enough to cradle Yu Zhen's face and kiss him, deeper than the first, still gentle, still reverent.

The kiss lingered, full of silent promise.

Crew members filtered around them, oblivious to the depth of the reunion unfolding centre-frame.

Yu Zhen rested his forehead against Lian Xuan's.

"I waited so long for you to finish that song."

Lian Xuan laughed softly through tears.

"I waited longer to hear it."

[MEMORY FRAGMENT 6: COMPLETE]

[AFFINITY LEVEL: 100%]

[SOUL THREAD: DEEP HEART-BOND] After the Thunder

They escaped to the rooftop balcony afterward, the applause still echoing faintly behind glass doors.

Under endless stars, they wrapped up together against the cool night breeze.

Lian Xuan leaned his back against the railing while Yu Zhen rested against him, arms threaded snugly around each other.

They spoke quietly.

"For the first time," Lian Xuan said, "I don't feel fractured."

Yu Zhen lifted his gaze.

"Because you're remembering who you always were."

"Which is…?"

He kissed Yu Zhen's hair.

"Yours."

Yu Zhen chuckled softly into his chest.

They stayed there a long time, wrapped together in silence.

Music finally finished its story.
