Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Disguise Options Unlocked

Dylan decided to test it.

He took a single Galleon from his backpack.

Sure enough, the moment he focused his will,

the Galleon in his hand vanished.

When he looked back at the system panel,

the [Money] field now displayed the correct number of Galleons.

Delighted, Dylan immediately stored all the money on him into the system, including the pounds his parents had given him.

He did the same with all the items he had bought.

"This system isn't bad at all. No need for something obvious like a spatial ring, and I don't have to worry about anyone stealing it."

The key point was that by putting his money into the system,

he did not have to keep it in Gringotts.

Gringotts vaults were not easy to access. Every time you used them—sometimes even just to deposit money—you had to pay for the privilege.

Dylan had no intention of being taken for a sucker.

As for the items tab, it let him store his possessions at will, which was also very handy.

He was very satisfied.

Looking at the new balance in his panel and the now-packed items section,

he resolved to keep going and eventually fill them to the brim.

He moved on to the next set of rewards.

Things like magic affinity and potion affinity he skimmed right past.

Instead, he focused on the two new areas appearing on the system panel:

the robe customization slot and the wand customization slot.

These were not under the wizard hat icon, but under the wand icon.

When he tapped it,

a new page appeared.

[Name]: Dylan Hawkwood

[Spells Eligible for Specialization]: None

The robe slot was still dimmed for now.

That was because he had only ordered his robes today; he would need to wait a while longer before picking them up.

After thinking for a moment,

Dylan tapped on Customizable Wands.

He discovered that it was simply a feature allowing him to pay money to adjust the appearance of his wand.

That included, but was not limited to, its shape and color—and even the color of the magic it produced could be changed.

"This…"

His first instinct was that the feature was useless. But then another thought occurred to him.

If the color of his spells could be customized, did "colorless" count as a color?

If he could make the magic coming out of his wand colorless…

Wouldn't that make it much easier to use all kinds of Dark spells?

He glanced at the price.

"What? It costs 100 Galleons just to change a single setting??"

The system seemed completely insane.

What kind of achievement system came with a gacha-style cosmetic shop?

And one that charged money on top of that!

Dylan looked at the wand he had only just bought.

"Forget it. I'll wait until I have more money."

Then he tapped on the dimmed Customizable Robes slot.

Even though the feature was locked until he physically received his robes, nothing stopped him from checking what it did.

It was similar to the wand section.

You spent money to design the appearance of your robes.

But the special twist was that as long as he wore the robes, he could even alter his own appearance.

He could, for example, change his hairstyle, apply different designs to the robes, even put on all sorts of makeup…

And once again, every single change cost 100 Galleons.

"No wonder it's a disguise section. What a money sink…"

One "setting change" meant, for example—

A new hairstyle? One hundred.

A different makeup look? Another hundred.

Switching the style of the robes? That would be another hundred.

And none of those presets could be saved.

In other words, once he changed something, he would have to pay again if he ever wanted to change it back.

Dylan sighed.

"Anything that can be solved with money is not a real problem. These two slots will definitely be useful once I've got cash to burn."

In fact, whether it was altering the wand's appearance or changing his own face, both would be extremely helpful for how he operated in the future.

But the sudden appearance of these functions made Dylan feel that…

Was the system trying to nudge him into becoming a Dark Lord, looting every vault in Gringotts to spend on cosmetics?

"Honestly, out of all these rewards, my favorite is still that 100 Galleons…"

That was the equivalent of several hundred pounds. His family would need quite a long time to earn that much.

"Mrr~" Coalball mewed again, seeing its master laughing and sighing by turns.

"Hungry?" Dylan chuckled.

He took out some food.

He had not dared buy pet feed from the Magical Menagerie today.

After all, he had gone there specifically to ask the owner how to legally keep a Shadow Wyrm.

If he did not buy a pet but only walked out with feed, someone might report him on the spot.

That was a risk he did not want to take.

After feeding Coalball,

Dylan sent it back into the system's pet space.

"Getting a license is not going to be easy. Better sleep first."

He collapsed into bed and was out in seconds.

The next morning,

Dylan dug out all the books he had bought from Flourish and Blotts.

With a month still left before term started, he wanted to get a head start and hopefully learn some spells in advance.

"I wonder if Harry Potter will be in my year."

He did not dwell on it too long.

He would know the answer the moment school began.

With six max-level spells under his belt, learning regular first-year standard charms was almost laughably easy. He could tear through them like paper.

"The Levitation Charm, huh?"

After studying for a while,

he tried to make the book in front of him float.

Gripping his wand, he pointed lightly.

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

Whoosh!

His magic flowed precisely into the wand, then burst out and wrapped around the book on the table.

"Huh? It actually worked on the first try?"

Dylan was pleasantly surprised.

But he did not get to enjoy it for long.

Either because he was using too much magic, or because he was sustaining it continuously,

the book, which only needed a light touch of magic, began to tremble.

Then it dropped onto the desk with a thud.

"Hmm. Looks like my control over magic needs to be even more delicate."

The exhilaration of successfully casting his very first non-system spell made Dylan happily keep trying it on the textbook in front of him again and again.

Soon he noticed something else.

After he learned the Levitation Charm,

it appeared on his system panel as well.

Unlike the others, though, it did not just show the spell name. There was a set of parentheses after it.

For example: Levitation Charm (3/10).

It looked like some sort of spell proficiency rating.
