The day of the Olympics arrived and the three boys went to represent their school. That same day, Brandon had invited his girlfriend out on a date.
Brandon arrived ten minutes early, he was sitting on a park bench waiting for her while scrolling through social media on his phone.
He opened his chat with Nataly where they had made the plans.
Brandon: Nataly, do you want to go out today?
Nataly: Yes, that's fine.
Brandon: Great!, shall we meet at the park at 4 pm?
Nataly: Okay
The time on Brandon's phone showed exactly 4:00, a girl approached him while he was still looking at his phone.
—Hello, Brandon—Said the girl with a calm voice.
He looked up, his eyes lit up with happiness and a smile appeared on his face.
—Hello, Nataly.
She didn't show a smile but sat next to him on the bench.
—How are you?—She asked in a somewhat dry tone.
—Good, good, and you? How did it go yesterday?.
—Good, everything is fine—She looked ahead where some children were playing.
—I'm glad!, so where do you want to go today?.
—I don't know, wherever you want.
Brandon stayed thinking for a few seconds about places they could go, the places had to be perfect.
He came up with an amazing plan for the day.
—I know!, how about we go get some ice cream first, then to the amusement park and lastly to get something to eat.
Nataly nodded her head still without expressions, but there was a spark of excitement in her eyes.
—That sounds good to me.
—Then let's go!—Brandon stood up and extended his hand to help her up.
She accepted his help, taking his hand and standing up with him. The two began to walk towards a nearby ice cream shop, they were close enough that their hands brushed against each other.
Nataly is a girl who seems to have no emotions and it is very rare to see her feel anything, some students even think that she doesn't love Brandon and is only his girlfriend out of pity. But that's not true, that is a lie.
Since she was very little, Nataly was rejected by her parents; they never showed her what love or affection is, which made her grow up without understanding it. She studied tirelessly trying to make her parents proud, but they never paid attention to her.
Nataly finally gave up in her second year of middle school after her parents didn't show up for the end-of-term report card ceremony, where she had obtained first place among all second graders.
She stopped trying to be perfect for them and closed herself off in her own bubble. By her third year of middle school, she was a cold and distant girl; her grades were average, failing nothing. She had no friends or anyone to talk to, which didn't bother her because she didn't feel the need to have anyone.
When she entered her first year of high school, she was still that cold girl; the boys considered her boring, something she completely ignored.
One day she went to the library to read any book, just to kill time. She sat at a solitary table, but about two tables away was Dan's group.
The guys were laughing and playing, until Brandon's gaze drifted towards Nataly. Something about her made him unable to look away, he was captivated for some reason.
His friends noticed this and started encouraging him.
—Oh, wow, wow, someone has fallen in love—Said Dan as he nudged Brandon in the side.
—What? O-of course not.
—Ah, no? Then why don't you stop looking at that girl?—Asked Jhonatan with a smile.
—I wasn't looking at her... I don't know what you're talking about.
Josias grabbed his cheeks and laughed softly.
—Your cheeks are burning, we aren't making this up.
—I-it's not because of that...—He looked away—I just... I'm sick.
Jhonatan rolled his eyes.
—What a cheap excuse.
Dan snapped his fingers.
—I know, we are going to help you, we are going to write her an anonymous letter.
Brandon opened his eyes in surprise, Josias nodded quickly.
—Yes, that's perfect—He stood up from his seat—I'll go get a sheet of paper and a pencil, you guys stay here, wait for me—He ran towards his classroom.
After three minutes, Josias returned with the paper and a pencil.
—Here it is.
—Good, now let's write nice things—Said Jhonatan as he grabbed the pencil and got ready to write.
The three of them helped Brandon write a letter for her; he was nervous about how she might react.
After so much erasing and rewriting, they finally finished the letter.
—Alright—Said Dan, handing the letter to Brandon—You're welcome, buddy.
—But... I would be too embarrassed to give it to her.
Jhonatan snatched the letter from Dan.
—Don't worry, I'll deliver it.
—Great! Thanks and good luck.—The three of them ran out of the library leaving Jhonatan alone.
He rolled his eyes but stood up to approach the table where Nataly was sitting. He walked in front of her table and dropped the letter in front of her, then walked away normally.
She looked up at him and then down at the letter. She picked it up gently and read what was on the front.
"from: an unknown boy. To: You"
She was somewhat confused, she turned the letter over and on the back it was written.
"Brandon sent this to you! I'm not the one delivering it".
It was the first time she had received a letter like this, she began to open the envelope to take out the paper and read it.
