Chapter 42 - Ava’s Breaking Point

I knew something was wrong the moment I walked into the hallway.

The air felt heavier. Quieter. Like the world was holding its breath.

People whispered as I passed. Not subtle whispers—sharp ones. The kind that carried judgment, curiosity, and cruelty all at once. My phone buzzed nonstop in my bag, but I didn't need to check it to know what it was.

Rumors.

Again.

I reached the glass doors leading to the executive lounge and froze.

Ava stood at the center of the room.

Not crying.Not screaming.

Smiling.

And that terrified me far more than tears ever could.

She was dressed flawlessly, hair perfect, posture regal—like someone who had already won. Kai stood a few steps behind her, rigid, pale, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were white.

Alan was across the room.

Still. Controlled. Dangerous.

"Ava," I said slowly. "What are you doing?"

She turned toward me, eyes shining with something wild and unstable.

"Fixing things," she replied sweetly. "For all of us."

My heart sank.

Alan — POV

The moment Ava opened her mouth, I knew this was going to explode.

She wasn't emotional. She wasn't impulsive.

She was deliberate.

That was the most dangerous kind.

"I think everyone deserves the truth," Ava continued, her voice carrying easily through the room. "Don't you, Julia?"

Julia stiffened beside me.

"What truth?" she asked.

Ava tilted her head. "That you didn't just appear out of nowhere. That you were protected. Hidden. Chosen."

Kai snapped. "Ava, stop."

She laughed. A soft, broken sound. "You don't get to silence me anymore."

I watched Kai then—really watched him—and saw fear flash across his face.

Not fear for himself.

Fear for Julia.

Julia — First-Person POV

My chest felt tight. "Ava, you're scaring me."

Her smile wavered.

"Good," she whispered. "Now you know how I've felt for years."

She stepped closer, lowering her voice, but every word still cut deep.

"You took everything from me without even knowing it," she said. "My family. My place. Even him."

I shook my head. "I never wanted—"

"But he wanted you," she snapped. "Always you."

The room fell silent.

Kai looked like he'd been struck.

"Ava," he said hoarsely, "this isn't love. This is obsession."

Her eyes filled—not with tears, but rage.

"I loved you," she screamed. "I destroyed myself loving you! And you looked at her like she was the sun."

She turned to me suddenly.

"You want to know my shocking move?" she asked calmly. "I leaked the file."

My blood ran cold.

"The Bennett records," she continued. "Your lineage. Your protection order. Everything."

Alan cursed under his breath.

"You did what?" I whispered.

Ava's lips trembled. "Now no one can hide you anymore."

Alan — POV

That was it.

I stepped forward, placing myself between Ava and Julia.

"You've crossed a line," I said coldly.

Ava met my gaze without fear. "No. I erased one."

I turned to Kai. "Control her. Now."

Kai looked shattered. "I tried."

And for the first time, I believed him.

Julia — First-Person POV (Ending)

Security rushed in. Ava was escorted out, still smiling, still unrepentant.

The damage was already done.

My past was exposed.

My name was unprotected.

My enemies now knew exactly who I was.

As the doors closed behind her, Kai whispered something I would never forget:

"She won't stop."

Alan's hand found mine—steady, grounding.

"Then neither will we," he said.

But deep down, I knew this wasn't just Ava losing control.

This was the beginning of a war.
