Chapter 4 - 004-System activation

The farming region lay just beyond the Outer City Wall of Clearwater Town, where wind carried the soft scent of soil and growing spirit grains. Lin Yuanfeng quickened his steps along the narrow dirt path, his heart thumping not from exhaustion, but from worry.

His family's field appeared, two acres of neatly lined spirit jade rice swaying gently with faint spiritual qi. At the edge of the farmland stood a worn-down wooden house, humble but familiar.

He stepped inside.

On the worn straw beds lay two people—middle-aged, severely injured, their bodies wrapped in

blood-stained cloth. His father's face, rugged but kind, was pale and sunken.

His name was Lin Changsheng. His mother, with gentle features and tired eyes, was named Yue Lingxin.

"Father! Mother!" Lin Yuan rushed forward.

Both slowly opened their eyes—weak, unfocused—but upon seeing him, a faint light appeared.

Without wasting time, he gently held their heads and carefully took out two porcelain bottles. A mild herbal fragrance filled the small room.

"These are Jade Willow Mending Pills, for spiritual poison and body injuries. Please swallow slowly," he said softly.

The pills dissolved on their tongues, releasing soothing warmth through their bodies.

Moments passed.

The purple marks caused by beast poison faded from their arms. Their breathing steadied. Color slowly returned to their faces, replacing the pale, lifeless hue.

"Fenger…" Yue Lingxin's hoarse voice trembled as tears built in her eyes. "How… did you get these?"

Lin Changsheng struggled to sit, suppressing a cough. His brows furrowed deeply. "Fenger… these are expensive medicines. Don't tell me you—"

Lin Yuan gently held his father's hand and smiled faintly.

"I found some spiritual herbs near the outer forest region and was able to exchange them for this medicine."

The room fell silent.

Lin Changsheng's expression changed instantly—anger, fear, and guilt mixing into one.

"The outer forest? Do you know how many die there every year?! What was in your mind, Fenger?!"

His voice cracked, not in rage—but in fear of losing their only child.

Yue Lingxin clutched her son's hand tightly, tears streaming. "Silly child… why would you risk your life for us?"

Lin Yuan's gaze softened.

"Because I am your son."

Their tears fell freely.

That night, he helped change their bandages, gently cleaned their wounds, and prepared spirit rice porridge and beast meat soup. They ate together quietly, sharing warmth instead of words.

After making sure they were comfortable, he stepped into his small room.

A wooden bed. A small oil lamp. Faint moonlight peeking through cracks in the ceiling.

He sat down, slowly exhaling.

'This place… this life… they are truly my family.'

His thoughts drifted.

Memories of this body's past resurfaced—once owning five acres of land, leaving only two due to poor harvest and beast attacks. This time Beast attacks had nearly taken his parents' lives. Poverty, hardship, yet warmth and love.

He lay back, eyes slowly closing.

DING—

A cold, emotionless voice echoed in his mind.

"Congratulations host…"

"For showing self-sacrifice and sincerity … you have met the system's activation requirements."

"Spiritual Farming System initiating…"

10%… 28%… 46%… 63%… 82%… 94%… 99%…

A sudden sharp pain stabbed through his mind.

"Ah—!"

He grasped his head as spiritual energy surged wildly. His vision blurred, body trembling before collapsing into unconsciousness.

Next Morning

Sunlight gently filtered through the window.

He sat up suddenly, gasping.

Cold sweat. Racing heart. But no pain.

A soft mechanical chime echoed in his mind

'Congratulations host for successfully binding to the Spiritual Farming System.'

'Newbie package acquired. You may check it in the System Inventory (capacity: 30 cubic meters).'

He blinked in disbelief.

'Was… that real?'

He remembered—the golden void, the purple-gold light he saw before transmigrating, the voice, everything.

He took a deep breath.

"System… panel!"

And just like that—

A shimmering light screen appeared before him.

---

After a thought,

He retrieved a porcelain bottle from the system inventory space and gently uncorked the lid. Ten pills the size of a soybean lay quietly inside, emitting a faint, refreshing fragrance. The moment he brought it close to his nose, his pores seemed to open instinctively, a cool sensation flowing through his meridians, clearing his mind like a gentle stream washing away dust.

"So this is a high grade Qi Nourishing Pill…" he whispered softly.

He placed the pill on his tongue and swallowed. A warm current spread through his body as he quickly sat cross-legged on the meditation mat.

Feeling the spiritual energy released from the pill in his dantian he gently guides it to open the meridians based on the Qi refining meridian diagram which was commonly practiced by all the loose and low-level cultivators

Spiritual qi began to circulate along his meridians, gradually smoothing out blockages, making the flow cleaner and faster. His breathing steadied, his mind sinking into clarity.

After an unknown period, his cultivation reached the limit of Qi Refining 1st Layer.

Crack—

A faint internal sound echoed through his meridians.

His body trembled lightly.

His cultivation broke through—Qi Refining 2nd Layer.

He exhaled a mouthful of turbid air, eyes slowly opening. A subtle ripple of strength coursed through his limbs.

'With this… I could probably smash a rock with bare hands.'

His lips curved into a faint smile.

He thought of the purple and gold cards inside his system inventory—tempting, powerful—but he glanced toward his parents' room and shook his head.

'Not yet… those might cause a commotion. I don't want to alarm them.'

He then took out the Azure Cloud Sword from the inventory. The chill of the blade felt like touching winter frost, sharp and alive. He stepped outside and gave it a few experimental swings.

Woosh… woosh…

The air whistled with each movement, wind gathering faintly around the blade.

Realizing its power was not something he could casually display, especially with his still-recovering parents nearby, he gently put the sword back into his storage pouch.

He washed up using the water barrel, cleaned off the dust, and returned to his small room.

As soon as his head touched the pillow, exhaustion claimed him.

...

Next morning. He slowly stood up, feeling warmth circulate in his body.

After washing he prepared breakfast and gently helped his parents sit.

"Fenger, you look tired," Yue Lingxin said, gently stroking his cheek.

Lin Yuanfeng smiled gently. "I just practiced , mother. That's all."

Lin Changsheng cleared his throat, though his eyes were gentle. "Come. Eat with us, Fenger."

They shared a warm, simple breakfast.

After helping them rest, Lin Yuan stepped out.

The morning sun shone over the spirit field, the Spirit Jade Rice glimmering with faint spiritual qi threads.

He stood there for a while, gazing at it.

"System… farming… cultivation…"

He finally smiled.

"This time… I will walk my own path."

The wind whispered softly through the spirit fields—

And a new journey had just begun.
