Deon's POV
Chester's voice crackles through the phone, raw with fury and desperation. His words hit like hammer blows against my eardrums.
"That bastard took my Beta right out from under me! Do you understand what that means, Deon? My second-in-command is in enemy hands! Joseph's pack shouldn't possess this kind of power, not after fighting for days straight. They should be exhausted, broken, but instead they're growing stronger with every damn battle. How am I supposed to retrieve Kyler from that fortress?"
I lean back in my leather chair, fingers drumming against the mahogany desk. The desperation in Chester's tone is palpable, but his panic won't solve anything.
"We will retrieve your Beta," I state with measured calm. "But first, tell me about Joseph's scent. Could you detect if he'd completed the mating bond with his new woman?"
"Who gives a damn about his mate right now?" Chester's snarl vibrates through the speaker. "He has Kyler locked away somewhere!"
