Kael held Aria tightly as the Sanctuary fell apart around them, the air thick with smoke and the aftermath of her awakening. Pillars lay shattered, the floor cracked like a wounded beast, and Ezren stood with his blade dug into the ground, panting heavily. Aria's head rested against Kael's chest, her breathing shallow, her skin glowing faintly with the strange silver light branching beneath her mark. Kael's voice trembled. "Aria, open your eyes… please." She blinked weakly. "Kael… you came…" He pressed his forehead to hers. "I would cross death itself to get to you." Ezren snorted. "Yeah, yeah, we all saw your dramatic entrance. Very theatrical." Kael ignored him, brushing Aria's cheek. The Queen approached, robes scorched, expression grim but steady. "Her power… that wasn't demon flame. That was Primordial light." Kael stiffened. "Meaning?" Ezren answered, "Meaning she didn't just evolve. She jumped ahead. Too fast." Aria frowned softly. "I didn't mean to…" The Queen touched her mark; silver sparkles danced beneath the skin. "This is dangerous. She reacted emotionally, without control. If she had pushed harder, this entire Sanctuary would have vanished." Kael growled, "She's not a weapon." The Queen met his eyes. "She is. And that is why the Sovereign wants her." Before Kael could argue, the ground trembled. Ezren looked around. "What now—round two?" The Queen's eyes narrowed. "No. It's her." Aria's mark pulsed violently, shaking the stones beneath them. Kael cupped her face. "Aria. Focus on me. Breathe." Her heartbeat synced with his, the tremors fading. Ezren sighed. "Finally." A black feather drifted down. Kael rose, protective flames flaring. Ezren cursed. "Messenger feather." The Queen paled. "From the Sovereign." Kael grabbed the scroll that formed from the feather, tore it open, and read aloud. "To the Bride of Blood and Light, you awakened beautifully. I await your next evolution." Aria's stomach twisted. "He saw me?" The Queen nodded. "He always sees." Before Aria could respond, her vision snapped. She was suddenly standing in darkness before a massive throne of shadow, flames twisting along its edges. The golden-eyed Sovereign sat upon it, gazing at her with quiet amusement. "Little Bride," he murmured, "did you miss me?" Aria shook with fear. "Stay away." "I cannot," he replied gently. "You called me." "No—" "Your light was mine." He appeared in front of her instantly. "Between flame and shadow… you will choose." Aria choked out, "I choose Kael." The Sovereign smiled. "And yet you reached for me." She screamed—and woke in Kael's arms. "Aria! What did you see?!" Kael demanded. She sobbed. "He said I called him. That the light I used belonged to him." Kael's flames burst uncontrollably. Ezren swore. "He's manipulating her bond!" The Queen spoke softly. "Kael… she is bonded to you and to him now. Two thrones." Kael shook with rage. "NO." But Aria whispered weakly, "Kael… he isn't lying that I used the light. I didn't know what it was." Kael held her tighter. "You are MINE. He cannot have you." "I don't want him," she whispered. The Queen stepped forward. "There is only one place left to hide her from the Sovereign's reach." Kael stood, lifting Aria in his arms. "The Flame Hall." The Queen's eyes widened. "Kael, she isn't ready—" "She will be with me." Ezren groaned. "Here comes the dangerous part." Aria leaned into Kael's chest. "Kael… what is the Flame Hall?" Kael looked down at her, eyes softening. "It's the only place the Sovereign cannot touch you. And the place where the bond… evolves." Ezren coughed. "Awkward." Kael ignored him and walked through the ruins of the Sanctuary, carrying Aria like she was the last ember in the world he'd burn to protect. The Sovereign's final whisper echoed faintly in her mind as Kael stepped into the firelit corridor. "Little Bride… I will see you again." Kael held her closer, his heartbeat a furious promise. "Over my dead body." And with that, the Prince of Flames carried his bride toward the hall that would change both of their destinies forever.
