Chapter 556 - Chapter 555: Bluffing the Archmage

"Hisss!"

After the vine had completely turned into a leg, the White-Bearded Man's forehead was already covered in dense beads of sweat.

He then glanced at the leg on the ground that had already been completely contaminated, then at the black liquid beast hatchlings covering the ground. Gritting his teeth, he swung the ancient vine magic staff in his hand and shouted, "Thousand Thunder Dragon!"

ROAR!

The next second, a thunder dragon actually flew out from the tip of the White-Bearded Man's magic staff.

The thunder dragon even let out a strange roar before circling once around the countless black liquid beasts on the ground.

Wherever it passed, countless bolts of lightning fell from its body.

The liquid beast hatchlings vanished one after another in flashes.

They all melted away.

Even the White-Bearded Man's leg that had been contaminated by the liquid beasts was no exception. After several bolts of lightning from the thunder dragon struck it, it liquefied as well, like a corpse doused in bone-melting water. It melted directly on the ground and was then absorbed by the red earth.

The White-Bearded Man stared at his melted leg with tightly furrowed brows, his eyes filled with pain and reluctance.

But in the end, he swung his magic staff once again.

"Purify!"

The next second, the thunder dragon disappeared, and the black liquid on the ground also turned white under the light of the White-Bearded Man's purification spell.

Only then was the crisis brought by that spatial gate finally completely resolved.

And Ethan watched everything in front of him... He was very shocked.

He had thought that the things Nostradamus had told him before were nothing more than alarmist talk.

He never expected that alchemy really could open a spatial passage to another world, and that it could even release such terrifying monsters.

Today, if the White-Bearded Archmage from the Peace Organization had not appeared, who knew how terrible a disaster this liquid beast plague would have caused.

However, just when Ethan thought he had escaped the crisis.

The White-Bearded Man suddenly stared in the direction where Ethan was hiding and said, "Are you coming out on your own, or do I need to blast you out with a bolt of lightning?"

"Uh..."

Ethan was completely stunned this time.

He had thought he was hiding pretty well. After all, he was hiding in a tree fifty meters away and was even wearing an invisibility cloak.

He actually had no idea how this White-Bearded Man had discovered him, but he also knew very well that once an Archmage had his eyes on him, there was no way he could escape.

He hurriedly took out his mage certification from his ring of endowment and pinned it to his chest. Only then did he pull off the invisibility cloak and say, "No need to trouble you, Archmage. I can come out myself."

"A mage?"

When the White-Bearded Man saw the mage certification badge pinned to Ethan's chest, he immediately looked a little surprised, "You're not an alchemist?"

"Haha! Archmage, you're joking. How could I possibly be an alchemist?", Ethan casually made something up, "I just happened to see golden light shooting into the sky, so I realized there might be an alchemist nearby. That's why I hurried over to take a look. I just happened to see you fighting the Abyssal Demon."

"What are you doing around here?", However, the White-Bearded Man clearly did not believe Ethan's words. He continued to stare at Ethan with narrowed eyes, "And did you see that alchemist?"

"I heard there are quite a lot of monsters around here, so I wanted to collect some materials to sell for money," Ethan could only grit his teeth and continue making things up, "Someone as important as you probably doesn't know this, but life is actually pretty difficult for little mages like us."

"Sigh! I've been running around here for half the day today and haven't even seen a single monster."

"Then I saw that yellow light shooting into the sky. I thought my chance to earn a bounty had finally come, so I rushed over here. I almost died of fright when I saw those black monsters."

"Luckily, you came, Archmage. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known what to do."

"As for..."

"That Abyssal Demon's lackey, that parasite of the Mist World, had already escaped by the time I arrived."

"Hmph! That bastard definitely knew he was going to die, which is why he ran so fast."

"Otherwise!"

"You wouldn't even need to do anything, Archmage. I could have just smashed a Great Fireball right into his face and wiped out that scourge right here. Even without a bounty, I could at least have done the world a favor by getting rid of him."

As Ethan spoke, he deliberately cast a Level One Great Fireball spell.

The Great Fireball was not very powerful. It even dissipated into the air before it could reach the tree below.

But the moment the White-Bearded Man saw the Great Fireball appear in Ethan's hand, the expression on his face visibly relaxed.

"So you're a fire-element mage. That's a promising profession."

"Unfortunately, you're only a beginner. Otherwise, I could have you join our Peace Organization."

"After all, your fire-element affinity happens to counter those dark creatures."

"Can I really?", Hearing this, Ethan pretended to look delighted, "Archmage, I'm actually still improving. Look, I can already cast two Great Fireballs now."

As Ethan spoke, he immediately cast a Level Two Great Fireball spell as well.

A Split Great Fireball.

He simply pretended to be a rookie mage who desperately wanted to join the Peace Organization.

"You're not good enough yet. If you really encountered demons from the Nightmare Land, you'd be too fragile," Hearing this, the White-Bearded Man also showed a faint smile, "Kid, when you advance to become an intermediate mage, come to the Peace Organization and find me. My name is Alastor LaStrange."

With that, the White-Bearded Man drew a line through the air with his magic staff, and a spatial gate opened with a response.

The White-Bearded Man walked straight into the dark spatial gate, then tossed out a paper crane and said, "Kid, if you happen to encounter that alchemist, remember to notify me immediately through the messenger. Understand?"

"Understood. Thank you, Archmage Alastor."

Watching the white paper crane quickly fly toward him as the White-Bearded Man's figure completely disappeared into the spatial gate, Ethan finally let out a huge sigh of relief and collapsed onto the ground.

'That was close.'

Luckily, he had reacted quickly. Otherwise, if they had discovered that he was the alchemist... he probably wouldn't have died, but the people from the Peace Organization would have taken him away and peeled off a layer of his skin.
