Chapter 6 - Waiting for a Thousand Years

The next night, when Wang Sun lay down for the Torah, a strange silence spread over the air.

As if the whole world had stopped for a moment.

Wei Ying was tossing and turning in his bed, sweat glistening on his forehead, his heart trembling with some unknown pain.

 Then suddenly —Everything blurred.

He found himself standing in the same valley of dreams again.

But this time…The valley was even brighter than before.

There was the scent of blooming lotus flowers in the air, silver light danced on the branches of the trees, and a blue firefly-like light was scattered on the ground.

 Wei Ying sighed.

There was a strange restlessness in his heart —

As if this place were his own.

As if he had ever laughed here, run here, held someone's hand.

 And then —

His eyes fell on a person.

White clothes, long black hair, straight but gentle posture.

He stood with his back to her.

The light was falling on him as if he were the protector of this region.

 Wei Ying's breath caught.

 "Lan… Zhan…?"

The name came out of his mouth without thinking.

And at that moment, he understood —

He recognised her.

Recognised her from somewhere deep, long ago.

The man turned, but his face was hidden in the fog.

Only his faint smile was visible —

A smile that soothes the wounds of the heart.

 "Wei Ying…"

His voice was like a prayer lost for centuries.

 Wei Ying began to tremble.

 "I… I know me? Why can't I forget you…?"

The man slowly walked forward, and a few moments later Wei Ying was in his arms.

An arm that held comfort, love, and an eternal promise.

"Wei Ying… you can remember me.

 Just listen to your heart."

 Wei Ying hiccupped.

"Tell me everything… our story… our first meeting… I want to know who we were…"

 The man—Wang Ji—said slowly:

"Okay… listen. This is all very old.

Thousands of years old…" Wei Ying was never an ordinary person.

He was the most beloved, most handsome, and most mischievous young man in the Light Sect.

His skin was as soft as the moon's rays.

 Life danced in his eyes.

There was always a mischievous smile on his lips.

 Wherever he went—

His smile would follow him.

He was so cheerful, so sweet, and so playful that people would see him and even their tired faces would be refreshed.

 From children to elders —

Everyone loved him.

There was a light in his personality that could illuminate even the darkest of places.

He was stubborn, sharp, but very soft at heart.

 And above all —

There was an endless ocean of love inside him.

 His clan, his family —

Everyone called him a shining soul. And on the other hand, the Lan Sect.

 Discipline, discipline, principles…

And above all —

silence.

The prince here was Lan Wangji.

A man whom people called the Ice Prince.

Cold, deep, passionate, but burning from within.

His face was like carved marble —

 silent but beautiful.

There was a seriousness in his eyes that never broke.

He spoke little, but his one word could bring many worlds together.

Everyone respected him, even feared him…

But there was a void in his heart

That no one could fill.

Even…

One day, Wei Ying entered his life. That day was a joint event where both sects were invited.

Wei Ying was busy with mischief as usual.

He was running after the fireflies, making the children laugh, and decorating everyone's heads with flower petals.

The entire hall seemed to be illuminated by Wei Ying's voice.

Wang Ji stood far away and seemed indifferent to the noise—

But when his eyes first fell on Wei Ying…

The world stopped. It really stopped.

He had never felt so bright, so light, so much life in his life.

Wei Ying's laughter fell into his heart like the first ray of the sun.

 But he didn't express anything.

He just watched from afar.

Silent. Calm.

But with a storm in his heart.

Wei Ying also saw him —

And at that moment, he thought:

"Oh, how… this is so serious.

 He needs to smile more!"

 And so —

The mischief began. Wei Ying would tease Wang Jie by doing some mischief every day.

Sometimes he would put flowers on his serious face.

Sometimes he would suddenly come in front of him and say:

"Lan Zhan! Smile! The world won't end!"

Sometimes he would hide his book.

Sometimes he would follow him and make monkey noises.

 And everyone would laugh.

But Wang Jie —

Quiet, aloof, but melting inside.

 He didn't get angry.

He was just afraid that Wei Ying might hear his heartbeat.

 He tried to scold her,

run away, be silent—

But Wei Ying had become his weakness.

Every night, he would explain to his heart:

"I should stay away from her…

This is light…

And I am just ice…"

But Wei Ying would break all his restraints with just a smile. Wang Ji could never express it.

 His training was like this.

 Quiet, strong, tough.

But whenever Wei Ying came to him—

His heart would go crazy.

 He would look down.

 His body would tremble.

 His hands would sweat.

 He loved Wei Ying—

so fiercely, so truly

that he would hide it even from himself.

He would become the weakest when he saw her.

But he would still be strong—

because love is sometimes the other name for endurance.

Wei Ying put her head in Wang Ji's arms and asked:

"Lan Zhan… have we really… met before…?"

Wang Ji held her tightly.

Her voice was full of emotion:

"Yes, Wei Ying…

You were my first light.

First love.

First heart…

And first heartbreak.

And I have waited for you…

for a thousand years."

Wei Ying's tears started to flow.

"How could I forget you…?"

Wang Ji said softly:

"You haven't forgotten.

You have all the memories inside you.

They will just…open up when the time comes."

Wei Ying placed her hand on his chest —

The beating of that heart now felt like her own.

"Lan Zhan… I… I don't want to lose you…"

Wang Ji, for the first time —

With open love, without any fog, he brought his face close.

And said:

"This time… you will never lose me.

Because this time I…

will not let you go away from me."

His arms tightened,

Wei Ying's breathing became laboured,

and their hearts beat as one. And they both started to kiss each other intensely.

 The light dimmed.

The valley began to break.

Wang Ji's touch began to soften.

 "Lan Zhan... Don't go...!"

Wang Ji held his hand for the last time:

 "I'll be back, Wei Ying.

Not far now.

Your memories... Your love... Will wake up soon."

 Then everything disappeared.

 Wei Ying woke up screaming.

Breathing uncontrollably, tears in his eyes, fire in his heart.

 He gasped:

"Lan Zhan... If this is love... Then I don't want to lose it again..." And Wang's eyes opened. Wang was soaked with sweat, and he was trembling. He started to remember a lot. His heart was beating fast. Then he went out to his office. Wang looked strange, as if he were still in a dream world.
