Chapter 87 - Chapter 88: Speedrunning Demon Slayer

Zap!

Roy focused on his opponent. Golden lightning surged in his palm, materializing into a three-foot-long sword. His previous "Village Good Sword" had run out of durability, so he had forced it into retirement. For a Level 2 with Grade S Magic, a weapon forged from pure lightning was just as effective and much more convenient.

Facing a youth he suspected to be a "godly messenger," Kokushibo took no chances. He unsheathed his demonic blade, Kyokukusashiki, and activated both his Slayer Mark and the Transparent World. The former boosted his physical stats significantly, while the latter allowed him to see Roy's internal blood flow and muscle movements.

Seeing Kokushibo's cautious stance, Roy grinned and attacked first. He lunged forward, his speed so great that even Kokushibo was startled.

Clang!

Their blades met with a sharp, metallic ring.

"Such immense strength," Kokushibo muttered, gripping his hilt with both hands to resist the pressure. "In all my years, only my master and Yoriichi Tsugikuni were stronger than you."

Roy's grin turned wicked. He twisted his body, parrying the blade, and allowed his lightning sword to dissolve into a snake of electricity that crawled up Kokushibo's weapon and onto his body.

The lightning scorched Kokushibo, the sensation rivaling the pain of sunlight. He fell back, his body weakening as he dropped to one knee. Roy didn't give him a moment to breathe; he reformed his lightning into a massive axe and brought it down. Kokushibo barely rolled away in time.

Boom! The axe split the floor.

Kokushibo's six eyes tracked Roy. This youth's fighting style was more bizarre than any demon's. He let out a low growl, his flesh rippling as he entered his monstrous form—horns sprouted from his head, jagged teeth grew, and grotesque tentacles emerged from his back.

Roy narrowed his eyes. This is his true demon form.

Kokushibo unleashed a violent moon-breathing technique, sending a whirlwind of moon-shaped blades toward Roy. Roy shifted his lightning again, forming a heavy shield.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The moon-blades rained down on the shield. Roy realized his lightning magic was incredibly versatile; as long as he paid a small amount of mental energy, he could reshape his weapon at will.

The two blurred across the ruins of the Infinity Castle for half an hour. Eventually, Kokushibo faltered. Using "Wind Walker," Roy surged forward like a bolt of lightning, his spear piercing through Kokushibo's chest.

"Ah..." Kokushibo felt his strength drain away. Even with the Transparent World, he couldn't react in time. Roy was simply too fast.

Boom!

A surge of golden lightning turned Kokushibo to ash. Demon immortality? To a carbon-based lifeform, being struck by lightning was a definitive end.

Roy turned his gaze to the other battlefield: Ryuu vs. Muzan.

While Roy had handled Kokushibo, he knew Muzan was the real threat. The "Instance" was rated Level 4 largely because of him. Unlike the version in the original story who was weakened by drugs, this was Muzan at his absolute peak.

Muzan had transformed into his combat form—white hair, mouths with serrated teeth covering his body, and eight high-speed whips that broke the sound barrier with every strike. Even Ryuu was struggling to close the distance.

"Come on! Weren't you going to kill me, you lowly ants?!" Muzan screamed arrogantly, lashing out. Ryuu parried the strikes with her wooden sword, her movements a blur.

Roy noticed something, though. Muzan's eyes were darting around, looking for an escape. He wasn't as confident as he acted; he was terrified. He had been hiding ever since Yoriichi nearly killed him, and seeing his fortress destroyed and his strongest subordinate killed had shattered his nerves.

Roy activated "Lord of Lightning." More and more lightning spears materialized around him. It looked similar to Hedin Selland's magic, though Roy had to cast his individually.

"Go!"

A rain of lightning spears engulfed Muzan. A blood-curdling scream filled the air. This was the power of magic—a Level 3 spell that even a Level 5 adventurer wouldn't dare take head-on.
