Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The Brilliant Fireworks

Without Lieutenant Alton as the commander, the squad's situation visibly descended into chaos.

Losing four other soldiers meant the network of firepower was no longer sufficient to cover all the zombies. Blind spots appeared, allowing the zombies to exploit the weakness and sneak in.

Seeing the zombies about to breach the defense line, the remaining American soldiers' will to fight instantly collapsed. Although the base was surrounded by zombies, they had a helicopter. There was still a chance to escape now, and no one wanted to die with the base.

The rout was like a domino effect; once one person ran, others followed, afraid of being left behind. They lacked a strong sense of duty.

The sound of gunfire gradually subsided. Everyone was running for their lives, unaware that separating was the surest way to meet their end.

Roy's revenge was not just aimed at the blonde, blue-eyed youth, but everyone in this base!

When the footsteps of two soldiers drew near, Roy sprang out from the corner. The Muramasa Sword darted forward, piercing one soldier's neck.

The other soldier looked shocked, quickly retreating and raising his automatic rifle to spray bullets.

"Too slow!"

Roy pulled out the Muramasa Sword, executed a spin, and the blade sliced fiercely, decapitating the soldier. Head and body separated, blood spurting like a fountain.

A gun is fast beyond seven steps; within seven steps, a gun is fast and accurate, but only if the enemy is not subhuman.

Even as an LV.1 adventurer, Roy's physical abilities far exceeded those of an ordinary person, especially with his attributes pushed past their limit—it was fair to call him half an LV.2.

Roy did not stop, rapidly maneuvering and launching a bloody massacre inside the base.

In less than ten minutes, the seven or eight soldiers who had lost their will to fight and fled were all killed by Roy, leaving only Welin and his assistant in the high tower.

"Fk! Fk! F**k!"

Welin, high in the tower, watched Roy, who was like a demon, slaughtering the base. His emotions were near collapse as he roared profanities.

Welin stopped shooting the zombies and instead aimed the heavy machine gun at Roy, pulling the trigger. The bullets flew out of the barrel.

A hail of bullets poured down. Roy moved quickly, using the walls for cover. The man on the tower could not come down, giving the more mobile Roy the advantage.

The high tower was easy to defend but hard to attack. Roy didn't need to force an assault. He picked up several MK3A2 offensive fragmentation grenades from the corpses of the U.S. soldiers.

Roy kicked a corpse out. Sure enough, bullets rained down, turning the body into a sieve.

In that very instant, Roy charged in the opposite direction, pulled the pin on a grenade, and made a precise throw from two hundred meters, tossing it onto the high tower.

Boom!

The grenade exploded on the high tower.

Roy, worried that one wasn't enough, threw two more grenades up. After two consecutive explosions, silence returned, save for the zombies' hungry growls.

Using the remaining grenades to clear a path, Roy quickly passed through and ascended the high tower.

Welin's assistant was killed instantly. Welin himself still had one last breath, having survived three grenades—truly a legendary blast-resistance champion. But Roy would soon make him realize how unfortunate it was that he hadn't died just now.

Roy pulled out a bottle of Low-Grade Life Potion and shoved it, glass bottle and all, into the youth's mouth. He pressed down on the top of the youth's head and jaw with both hands.

Crack!

The glass bottle was crushed. The ruby-colored potion, mixed with glass shards, slid down the youth's throat. After a few seconds, the blonde youth's mental state improved slightly, but his mouth was lacerated and bloody from the broken glass.

Seeing Roy, the blood-soaked blonde youth's eyes flashed with terror, and he roared to bolster his courage. "You're a demon sent by Satan, a demon!"

With his throat cut by the glass, his voice was sharply hoarse, like the friction of car tires.

"If it means killing people like you, I'm willing to be a demon forever," Roy said coldly. He used the nearby safety rope to tie the ankles of the blonde, blue-eyed youth and slowly lowered him.

"No, no, no, kill me! Just kill me quickly!" Seeing the zombies gathering below the high tower, Welin, who was clinging to life moments ago, widened his eyes in horror.

Roy said nothing, only continuing to release the rope.

"Aahhhhhhhhhhhh—"

The blonde youth fell into the horde of zombies. As expected, he was immediately devoured by the many zombies. His horrifying screams echoed throughout the night sky. In his final moments, he was filled with bitter regret: Why did I provoke this demon?

"Hah!"

Roy let out a long breath, feeling completely refreshed. His mind felt utterly clear. This was perhaps what people called achieving peace of mind—otherwise, this matter would forever remain in his thoughts like a spiritual demon, insignificant during normal times but ready to leap out and cause trouble at a crucial moment.

Roy headed to the base's armory.

What greeted his eyes was a dazzling array of ordnance. He definitely couldn't take any of it. He didn't want to know what would happen if modern thermal weapons appeared in the DanMachi world.

He found a dozen C4 time bombs that even an idiot could use, set them to detonate in ten minutes, and placed them in different locations.

He then set up a large loudspeaker to emit loud noise.

The invading zombies, attracted by the sound, all rushed toward the armory. Roy walked in the opposite direction, moving silently and weaving through the zombie horde.

Boom!!

As Roy reached the base gate, deafening thunderous noises continuously erupted. Explosions roared, blowing the armory and a large number of zombies sky-high.

The blazing fire stained the sky red, and the ground could be felt shaking even several kilometers away.

[Congratulations on completing the Main Quest. Please return within twenty-four hours. Countdown...]

[Cumulative Zombie Kill Count: 2820. Gained 282 Status Points. Special Reward triggered, obtained Potion Chest (containing at least one High-Grade Potion).]

Roy clicked "Open Potion Chest."

[Potion Chest opened. Congratulations on obtaining Low-Grade Life Potion (x10), Low-Grade Stamina Potion (x10), Low-Grade Mind Potion (x10), Panacea (High-Grade), Zombie Venom (High-Grade).]

The Low-Grade Life Potion goes without saying. The other two low-grade potions had similar effects.

They restore 20% of Stamina or Mind Power within ten seconds. Repeated consumption extends the duration but is not stackable.

The "Magic" ability score is essentially Mind Power, just called by a different name. Miscasting magic can lead to Mind Power depletion and fainting.

Name: Zombie Venom (Potion)

Quality: High-Grade

Effect: The emitted toxic gas induces a state of frenzy. Infection can spread through bites. Effect is significantly reduced for adventurers with the Abnormal Resistance ability.

...

Name: Panacea

Quality: High-Grade

Effect: A special potion effective against injuries, poisoning, illness, and mental exhaustion.

...

Dexterity (AGL): $1008 \to 1290$ (SSS)

Roy allocated the gained Status Points to Dexterity. It is worth noting that attributes exceeding 999 are SS-rank, and only above 1200 are SSS-rank.

As for anything beyond SSS, that is an unknown domain, which probably no one has ever reached.
