Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Sense of Taste

The sun slowly set, and the forest began to be shrouded in darkness. The surroundings were silent.

Morax walked through the forest holding Rimuru. Strangely, for some unknown reason, they hadn't encountered a single monster along the way.

Even when they saw monsters, as soon as the monsters saw the two of them, they would run away without stopping.

To be honest, not only was Rimuru puzzled, evenMorax was somewhat confused.

AlthoughMorax had read the Rimuru novel several times, he had only repeatedly reviewed the climactic and exciting parts. As for some details, he really didn't know much. Moreover, since being reincarnated into this world, due to the butterfly effect's influence, he really didn't dare guarantee that other things wouldn't change.

Although for now, there didn't seem to be any major fluctuations in the plot.

"Morax, I want to eat something."

At this moment, Rimuru interrupted Morax's thoughts.

Hearing this voice, three black lines appeared aboveMorax's head.

"Ever since you left the cave, you've been lying in my arms. You haven't walked a single step. I haven't even said I'm hungry yet! And now you're saying you want to eat."

Morax lectured Rimuru.

"I don't care, I don't care. I want to eat something."

At this moment, Rimuru acted unreasonably.

Seeing Rimuru like this,Morax was also helpless.

Just asMorax was about to look for food, he suddenly remembered something.

"Wait, Rimuru, you're a slime now. Are you sure you still have a sense of taste? No, wait—are you sure the food you eat now has any flavor?"

HearingMorax's words, Rimuru's slime brain seemed to be struck by lightning.

"That's right. Do I still have a sense of taste?"

"Waaah, I can't taste delicious food anymore."

Rimuru burst into tears with a wail.

Seeing Rimuru like this,Morax was somewhat at a loss. To be honest, he didn't have any good solutions. At least for now, it was true that Rimuru eating food had no taste. Even according to the plot's development, by the time she had a sense of taste—even if it wasn't very late, it wasn't early either. This meant Rimuru would have to eat tasteless food for quite a period of time.

Seeing Rimuru's unsteady appearance,Morax was somewhat speechless. Who could believe this was one of the Three Great Kings of the Other World, the famous Rimuru? With this crying and wailing appearance—indeed, the butterfly effect was terrifying. Not only did it change the Rimuru's previous life gender to female, even her personality changed so thoroughly. Seeing Rimuru like this,Morax felt somewhat tired. He had wanted to ride the Rimuru's coattails! With this, forget about living a peaceful life—he'd probably end up being a nanny.

"Waaaah..."

Hearing this crying,Morax felt somewhat irritated, then spoke gently.

"Alright, stop crying. I only said it's possible—I'm not certain. Don't be so desperate, okay? Besides, don't you still have Great Sage? Just ask him for a solution, and it'll be fine."

HearingMorax's words, Rimuru instantly stopped crying. The speed of her face-changing was somethingMorax had never seen even in his previous life.

"Also, eating is a small matter. Haven't you noticed something strange?"

At this moment,Morax brought up his doubts.

"What's strange?"

Rimuru asked with an innocent expression.

Seeing Rimuru like this,Morax's evaluation of her deepened another level. It seemed that in her previous life, she was not only female but probably not very intelligent either.

"Haven't you noticed that since we entered the forest, we haven't encountered a single monster? Even when we did encounter them, they turned and ran. Don't you find that strange?"

Morax raised his question.

"Aren't they afraid of you?"

Rimuru's offhand remark leftMorax confused.

"Because of me?"

Morax was somewhat bewildered.

"Look at yourself—you obviously don't look like a low-level species. Plus, with our enormous magical power, it would be strange if they weren't afraid."

Rimuru said matter-of-factly.

Hearing what Rimuru said,Morax quickly called out to the Gamer.

"Gamer, use magic sense on me."

Only then didMorax discover that his entire body was emanating powerful magic, like a mountain peak. Combined with his appearance resembling an Eastern dragon—it was only because his magic's color wasn't black but rather a dark golden yellow like the Old Man's, appearing as steady as the Old Man.

"Damn, I was wondering why no monsters appeared in front of us."

Only now didMorax understand the reason. He was on the verge of tears.

ThenMorax retracted all the magic emanating from his body into himself.

SeeingMorax like this, Rimuru was somewhat puzzled.

"Morax, what are you doing?"

"We just arrived in this world and aren't very familiar with it yet. Being so high-profile—aren't you afraid of being discovered by some strong person and subjugated? Or surrounded by other monsters? By that time, it'll be too late to cry. Besides, we don't even know what other strong beings are in this great forest. We should be more careful."

Morax said to Rimuru with a grave expression.

HearingMorax's explanation, Rimuru felt somewhat fearful and hurriedly retracted all the magic essence from her body.

Seeing this scene,Morax didn't say anything more. Actually, there was another reason—the subsequent plot.Morax had never forgotten his current goal: to build Tempest (Demon Federation). He couldn't lose sight of the big picture over small matters. If he remembered correctly, in the original plot, Rimuru's first subjects were a group of weak goblins. This was the foundation of the Demon Federation and couldn't be missed.

"Alright, let's keep going."

Morax suggested.

"Keep going what? It's already dark. Aren't we resting?"

Rimuru asked puzzledly.

"Didn't you want to eat something to verify whether you have a sense of taste or not? Let's first find some food to help you verify, then rest. Also, it's not like you have to walk—I'm carrying you. Are you still not satisfied?"

Morax said.

Hearing whatMorax said, Rimuru was moved.

"A Morax, you're so good."

"Alright, stop talking. Let's hurry up and search."

Not long after,Morax found a type of red fruit growing on trees.

"A Morax, look! There are fruits!"

Rimuru said excitedly.

"Stop shouting. I saw them. Wait here. I'll go pick some."

Morax put down Rimuru from his arms, jumped up to the tree, picked a few of the reddest fruits, and jumped down.

He placed the fruits in front of Rimuru and said.

"Try them. These few look pretty good."

Rimuru didn't waste words. She used fluid to manifest a mouth and ate them one by one.

"As expected, there's no taste."

Rimuru said dejectedly.

Seeing Rimuru's appearance,Morax felt somewhat reluctant.

"Ask Great Sage. He should have a solution."

Morax suggested.

Rimuru immediately communicated with Great Sage in her mind.

"A Morax, you were right. Great Sage has a solution."

Rimuru said joyfully.

"Alright, now you can rest easy."

Morax stroked Rimuru in his arms and said gently.

"I'm relieved, I'm relieved."

"Alright, it's getting late. Let's also find a place to rest for a bit. We'll deal with tomorrow's matters tomorrow."

Morax said.

"Right."

Rimuru agreed.
