Chapter 71 - Chapter 63: The Alchemy of Gold

After Mufasa returned to King's Landing, he first went to see the children at the North Sea Kindergarten. When they saw Mufasa flying down riding the White Lion, they were initially terrified, but then they all clamored to ride the White Lion up into the sky.

"If anyone can get first place in the exam seven days from now, I will take you for a flight in the sky. Work hard, youths!"

The exam Mufasa set for them consisted of a written test and a physical assessment.

The written test was about writing; whoever wrote the most characters correctly would be first.

The physical assessment was a competition of speed, strength, and jumping height.

Mufasa planned to find a few highly talented children among them and cultivate them from a young age.

"Dean, we certainly won't let down your expectations."

Mufasa currently holds multiple titles.

The title of Ser, which he obtained when he was knighted.

The title of President, which he obtained when he founded the Lionheart Society.

The title of Dean, which he obtained when he established the North Sea Kindergarten and the South Mountain Nursing Home.

The title of Special Envoy, which he used when he and Tyrion represented Robert on a mission to The Wall, but this status has now expired.

Mufasa left the North Sea Kindergarten and went back to the South Mountain Nursing Home, where he found that the old gentlemen there were also keeping busy.

They recently banded together and planned to write a book. They had already decided on the title: *Memories of King's Landing*.

They told Mufasa that they intended to write about the past events of King's Landing from the last hundred years since its founding.

Mufasa told them to notify him once the manuscript was finalized, as he planned to publish the book under the name "Old Men of South Mountain." This would be their collective honor.

After leaving the South Mountain Nursing Home, Mufasa arrived at Steel Street in King's Landing. The street was full of blacksmith shops, and Mufasa finally reached the best blacksmith in King's Landing.

Tobho Mott's Blacksmith Shop.

"Ser Mufasa, have you come to forge armor or a weapon? You know my craftsmanship; Ser Loras the Knight of Flowers just picked up his new armor from me yesterday, and it is truly unparalleled in splendor!"

Old Tobho said.

"Unparalleled splendor? But how is the practicality?" Mufasa asked.

"It has some practicality, but it's not great! But Ser Loras the Knight of Flowers doesn't care; he only cares if the appearance is bright and beautiful," Old Tobho said.

"Master Tobho, I came here to trade the steel I have for your apprentice, so he can become the captain of my personal guard. How about it?" Mufasa asked.

"Are you talking about Gendry?" Old Tobho asked.

"Besides him, who else? Do you have other apprentices?"

"Yes! But the others are just trainees; he has already officially completed his apprenticeship!"

Old Tobho said.

"However, this apprentice of mine has a special background; he might be the bastard son of some high official or noble in the palace."

"A bastard? I was a bastard too, once. That means nothing. Let him come with me!" Mufasa said.

"You can, but I need to see your steel."

Mufasa took out the piece of rebar.

Old Tobho tapped it with a hammer and immediately recognized it as fine steel, capable of forging a hundred-refined sword.

"I agree to trade this piece of steel for Gendry. I'll go call him over now."

Soon after, Mufasa met a young man who was burly, broad-shouldered, with black hair and blue eyes. He was about fifteen or sixteen years old, but already stood six feet tall, or about 1.8 meters.

"Gendry, grab your things and come with me!" Mufasa said.

"I don't want to be the captain of your personal guard; I just want to be a blacksmith."

Gendry said.

"Oh, is that so? But if you become the captain of my personal guard, I can give you a knife!"

Mufasa took out the Damascus knife. The complex fish-scale pattern on the blade immediately drew the eyes of both blacksmiths.

"This, this is a valyrian steel knife?" Old Tobho asked.

He had seen other valyrian steel swords before, but he had never touched one. After all, those who owned valyrian steel swords were either nobles or knights.

"Oh, you know your stuff, Old Tobho? How about it, Gendry? Become the captain of my personal guard, and this knife is yours!"

"I'll do it!" Gendry immediately agreed.

"Good! Here you go!" Mufasa handed him the knife.

Gendry carefully took the knife. He tested the edge, finding it extremely sharp. A mere light touch cut his finger.

"What a fine knife! A good knife that can cut iron like mud!" Gendry laughed.

"Mufasa, please wait for me. I'll go make a sheath for this knife, and then I'll leave with you."

"I have other things to attend to. Just go straight to The Red Keep to find me later! Take this Golden Lion Token."

Mufasa took out a Golden Lion Token. It was cast in brass but plated with a layer of gold.

Leaving the blacksmith shop, Mufasa returned to The Red Keep. He first retrieved Little Fire from the stables.

Then he called for Melisandre, because he was about to begin refining gold.

Mufasa found all the silver he possessed and brought over a crucible.

He put all the silver into the crucible, then used several pieces of volcanic rock to hold the crucible up.

Below it, he placed an Energy Amethyst.

"Breathe fire, Little Fire! Ignite the Energy Amethyst," Mufasa said.

The Scarlet Ember Fire Dragon Colt immediately neighed and then spewed forth raging flames from its mouth.

The flames enveloped the Energy Amethyst, which ignited and emitted blue flames. The temperature was extremely high.

Soon, heated by the blue flames, all the silver in the crucible turned into liquid silver.

At this moment, Melisandre brought a mysterious liquid and handed it to Mufasa.

"Use it carefully, it might explode! If you're not careful, it'll just go! *Boom*!"

She demonstrated the scene of an explosion.

"Then let's stand far away!"

Mufasa used long iron tongs to pour the greenish-brown solution given by Melisandre into the crucible from a distance.

Then Melisandre also stood far away and began stirring slowly.

Once the liquid in the crucible was completely uniform, they stopped stirring.

"Alchemy of Gold, Infinite Brilliance," Mufasa chanted the spell. At the same time, he began forming hand seals; six different seals were completed within one second.

At this point, the crucible emitted a smell similar to burning and crackling sounds.

Mufasa knew this was the critical moment, and he could not back down. So he sped up the rate of forming hand seals.

After the final quarter of an hour, the liquid in the crucible completely turned golden yellow.

Mufasa poured it out, and after it cooled, he discovered it was, in fact: gold.

"Hahaha, I finally refined gold! Alchemy is real after all!" Mufasa laughed.

"It's my turn to get rich this time! Hahaha!"

"Ser Mufasa, you shouldn't celebrate too soon. Do you know what that mysterious liquid I added was?"

Melisandre said.

Mufasa thought of the greenish-brown liquid. He shook his head, indicating he didn't know.

"That was a mixture of wildfire and human blood. It's very difficult to manufacture in large quantities. Leaving aside the human blood, the harder part is the wildfire, because the Fire Warlocks refuse to share the secret recipe for making it."

Melisandre did not sound very optimistic.
