Chapter 64 - Chapter 65

People often said that if you kept vomiting long enough, you'd eventually get used to it. Gwen was the perfect example.

After throwing up twice because of the corpse, she somehow adapted. Now, whenever the image flashed in her mind, she still felt nauseous, but nothing came out anymore.

She even asked her coworkers to buy her something to eat—strictly vegetarian, of course.

It was estimated she wouldn't be able to eat meat again for a long while, especially anything like meat sauce.

Even after eating, her stomach was still upset. That was when her father and his police team arrived on scene faster than they normally would.

A middle-aged officer wearing a badge was the first to rush out of the police car. His sharp eyes scanned the area, and the moment he spotted Gwen, he hurried toward her.

"Let me see—are you hurt?"

"Dad, I'm fine," Gwen said helplessly with a faint smile.

This man was none other than George Stacy, Gwen's father.

"You can't take this lightly. I'm having someone take you to the hospital right now. No need to be writing reports yet."

"No. I know my own body. Let's check out the scene first. There's something I need to tell you face-to-face," Gwen insisted, suppressing another wave of nausea.

George Stacy shot her a look, his expression tightening. He had nothing else to say, so he said nothing. Whether she could walk wasn't his concern—he held her steady as he and several officers entered the bar.

Hiss! Hiss! Hiss…

The moment they stepped inside and saw the corpse, even officers who had witnessed countless crime scenes couldn't remain composed. Gasps filled the room.

Part of it was because the head had been completely obliterated—brain matter, blood, and bone mingled into a revolting mess splattered across the wall.

The other part was that most of the body remained intact… intact enough to confirm it had once been a real, breathing creature.

It looked like a demon—literally.

During its death throes, Insk's body had torn through parts of its skin, exposing the monstrous form underneath. The officers saw everything.

"Oh my God…"

"Demons are real!"

"God help us—that thing is dead, thank heaven. If it hadn't died here, who knows what would've happened!"

"Hell… I'm going to start going to church. May God protect me and my family!"

In that moment, believers and non-believers alike found themselves praying.

Demons hardly had a good reputation—and this one certainly lived up to the image.

"That's why I said the man wasn't a criminal," Gwen said beside her father. "He may deny it himself, but in my heart, he's a superhero."

George Stacy had never been fond of superheroes—he believed they undermined law enforcement. But this time was an exception. He couldn't help but feel a trace of admiration toward Lu Yi.

Fighting criminals was one thing. Criminals were still human. They should be arrested and judged by the law—that was the police's responsibility.

Demons, on the other hand, were another matter entirely.

The police had no authority to arrest demons. The law had no clauses about protecting or prosecuting them.

"So, Dad? What do you think?" Gwen asked, suddenly feeling nervous.

"He's definitely not a criminal. He's a superhero."

George Stacy acknowledged Lu Yi without hesitation. Then he turned to his officers.

"Set up a perimeter immediately. No one enters. Confiscate all communication devices from anyone who was present. No information is to leave this site."

"Yes, sir!"

As police chief, George Stacy had clearance to know certain secrets—how to handle supernatural incidents, and whom to report them to.

He instructed his officers to keep Gwen safe and assigned a female officer to watch over her. Then he dialed an encrypted number—one he had memorized long ago but never had the chance to use.

Not long after he ended the call, a group of people in black suits arrived at the bar—only to be driven out almost immediately.

George Stacy was confused, but he said nothing. These people were more powerful than they looked; his superiors had warned him repeatedly never to provoke them.

After being forced out, they didn't leave. Instead, they were taken to a nearby hotel for questioning.

Even though they weren't technically part of the same organization, the other side still had the authority to do so.

"George Stacy—you're the supervising officer for this case?" asked a man carrying a bow, following protocol.

"Yes," George answered, bewildered by the man's bow but following procedure anyway.

"Did you see who killed the demon?"

"No. But my daughter did," George replied after a brief hesitation.

He didn't want Gwen too involved, but too many witnesses had seen her there. Hiding it was pointless.

"Did she describe the man's appearance?"

"No. She was terrified. She didn't see his face clearly," George said honestly.

It sounded plausible. There was nothing to hide. What he didn't know was that his precious daughter had lied to him—she had seen Lu Yi's face but had decided to hide it.

"Forgetting his face is understandable… but she remembers his features, right?" the archer asked.

"She remembered one thing—she said the man was wearing a red cape."
