Sofia's interview was different.
She was poised. Articulate. Remarkably mature for sixteen.
"What's it like being the daughter of trafficking survivors?" Naomi asked.
"Complicated. I grew up not knowing the full story. Thinking my parents just ran restaurants. Then I found out about the trafficking. The Commission. Prison. Everything. And I had to I had to reconcile the parents I knew with the people they'd been."
"How did you do that?"
"By understanding that people are complicated. That my mother survived something horrific and made choices some good, some terrible to keep surviving. That she's not defined by her worst actions or her worst trauma. She's defined by what she's chosen to do since. How she's helped others. How she's built something good from something broken."
"Are you angry with her? For the life she lived? For the dangers it brought?"
