Chapter 5 - Chapter 3: That's It? There's Nothing More!

"Master."

Wang Chao scurried over with a flattering smile.

"I'm here to get some information from the complainant."

Chen Changchun glanced around and asked, "Where's the complainant?"

"Uh... just left." Wang Chao scratched his head.

"Ha, quite a coincidence." Chen Changchun said expressionlessly, then looked at the half-eaten sesame pancake in Wang Chao's hand.

"That's from the complainant too, isn't it?"

Wang Chao was shocked, his face full of astonishment.

"Master, how did you know!?"

Chen Changchun: ?

Chen Changchun was a bit speechless, but he didn't mind much. He waved his hand for Wang Chao to follow him, and then turned to leave.

Wang Chao graduated from the police academy this year as a top talent and was thrilled to be assigned to Chen's team.

The pity is....

According to Chen Changchun, 'this guy is a fool.'

This kid's not too bright, with unusual thinking patterns, having no talent for criminal investigation, not even a bit, all misplaced!

But not totally misplaced either.

He excelled in physical strength... standing tall at six foot three, over two hundred pounds, all muscle, like a Minotaur standing there!

He even won five consecutive championships in the "Police Academy Restraining Techniques Contest" and "Comprehensive Martial Arts Sanda Competition"!

So, fool or not, Chen Changchun still personally took him as a disciple, planning to gradually train him.

"Finish up and come back to the station with me."

Chen Changchun took a cigarette from his pocket, and Liu Jin beside him lit it for him.

He took a deep drag and then walked forward.

"Go to the office for a meeting, let's classify this case!"

With that, he hurried back to the station, Wang Chao followed closely behind.

There are three districts and nine counties in Hanhai City.

They are the detectives of Hongfu District, and naturally, the case falls under their jurisdiction after it occurred.

The Snail·case was extremely heinous, luckily there weren't many people around at the time, avoiding much discussion and reducing public pressure considerably.

But that doesn't mean the pressure from the higher-ups was any less!

Hanhai City has been preparing to be selected as a civilized city in recent years, with the crime-solving rate being crucial, not to mention such a horrific case!

The municipal bureau exerted a lot of pressure on him, if it dragged on for long, it could very well.... become a close deadline to solve the case!

Thinking of this, Chen Changchun felt an increase in pressure, his shoulders heavy as if weighed down by two bricks.

He needed to be quick.

When Chen Changchun looked up again, the police car had already returned to the Hongfu District detective unit.

Without hesitating, he got out of the car immediately.

"Liu Jin, inform the other squad leaders and the main personnel involved in the case to come to Room 201 for a meeting!"

With that, Chen Changchun dashed up to the second floor with a fierce pace.

Liu Jin immediately began making arrangements, and with a grab of the walkie-talkie, everyone received the message.

In less than a moment.

The office was packed with officers, most of whom were in plainclothes.

The unit comprises three squads: Comprehensive, Major Cases, and Intelligence.

The first to speak was the squad leader of the Intelligence Squad.

He was over forty, experienced and steady, and took the chalk, drawing on the blackboard based on his experience.

"The victim died on the night of June 1st, at eleven o'clock, on the right side of the main entrance of Lianxin Law Firm on Hongfu Street."

He marked the location simply on the board.

"The crime scene was an alley on the side of the street, tens of meters from the victim, and the killer hid in the alley without showing up."

"According to surveillance, before his death, the victim came out of a bar, stood and gestured as if speaking when passing the alley, indicating a high probability that the victim knew the killer!"

"They knew each other, yet the victim was unaware and unguarded, while the killer carried a knife."

"Nearby residents heard no sounds of conversation related to the incident. The victim died silently, leading to a preliminary determination..."

"Considering the time and place, this is highly likely to be a murder case."

With that, the squad leader pulled out the victim's case file.

The clues are logically connected.

From the current clues compiled, it indeed leans heavily towards murder!

And often murders are committed by someone familiar, so starting from the social circle often yields unexpected results.

However...

"Tsk, it really turned out to be a guess of murder..."

Someone in the corner suddenly opened their eyes, full of shock, muttering softly, but it still fell into Chen Changchun's ears.

His face stern, he glanced at the person, and the female officer next to them promptly tugged at the corner of their clothes, and the voice ceased.

The squad leader frowned, not seeing who it was, then continued:

"I've investigated the victim's social circle and identified two suspects."

"One is a neighbor who had a recent intense conflict with the victim, where both sides were physically confrontational, and an estranged childhood friend who fell out with the victim three days before the incident."

"Both have motives and considerable suspicion."

"I suggest starting from here to find a breakthrough!"

Social circle?

"Guessed it right again, it's amazing. How could he even guess the police's thoughts, could it really be that he's actually right..."

While everyone was pondering, that muttering voice resurfaced.

The Intelligence squad leader seemed slightly annoyed, looked towards the crowd, but still couldn't figure out who it was.

Until, Chen Changchun suddenly lowered his voice with a hint of anger:

"Wang Chao!"

"Are you just trying to prove that you're a chatterbox? Want me and the squad leaders to step down and let you take over?"

Wang Chao?

Instinctively, everyone turned to look at Wang Chao in the corner.

Wang Chao paused and only returned to his senses upon seeing this.

Just now, he was so shocked that he lost himself, the squad leader's consecutive guesses all completely aligned with what the complainant had predicted earlier!

Whether it was determining familiarity from surveillance, deeming it murder, or even finding suspects within the social circle...
