The next morning, Adeira woke up early to do her house chores. She was reminiscing last night's events. She smiled and giggled to herself as she recalled Rick. How he approached her and the pleasant smell of his cologne. All she could think of was him. She couldn't help but smile all day.
That evening, her mother sent her to buy some groceries. She left home still thinking about her newly found happiness. She had just walked a few yards from home when she met Rick. He offered to accompany her to the food store. They talked on the way as Adeira giggled all through. Rick was not only attractive but also very funny. She felt this joy she had never felt before. Adeira came back home. She felt so lucky for this new turn of events.
That night, she could not sleep. She spent hours and hours on her phone chatting with Rick. Before she could close her eyes for a few minutes, the sun was already up. They agreed to meet that evening again.
They spent the whole evening together. Before they knew it, this was already a routine. They could meet every evening and soon Rick asked Adeira to be his girlfriend. Of course Adeira agreed and soon Rick met Adeira's mother. She was happy for them and wished the two love birds all the best.
Adeira's mother grew fond of Rick. It had become a routine for him to spend his evening at their home. Adeira knew Rick was in the army but she could not tell her mother. It would remind her of her past and she would never accept Rick to be her son in law. She lied to her mother that he was studying medicine in another state.
Their love blossomed and Rick introduced Adeira to his cousin, Nelson. Nelson was so happy for them and encouraged Rick as he knew Adeira was a good person. The two lovers started going out for lunch dates and movie nights. Adeira had never felt so loved and at peace in her life.
Rick helped Adeira research for good colleges to do medicine. She was able to get a good college and applied for a course in nursing. After a few weeks of waiting, she got an acceptance letter. She was so excited and shared the amazing news with Rick. In no time, she had begun her preparation.
She had three months to prepare to join the college. She made sure everything was ready. She wanted a smooth transition into campus. Rick told Adeira's mother that he would take care of her education. Her mother felt so elated. Adeira could not believe this fortunate turn of events. She felt so lucky to have met Rick.
The three months flew by so fast. It was finally time for Adeira's admission. She felt sad since Rick was also going for a mission in the army. It will take a whole year for them to see each other again. Adeira cried the whole night. She could not imagine how she would survive without the love of her life. Her mother did not understand why she was sad and yet she was joining a good college to study the course of her dreams. Everything had already been taken care of by Rick.
Adeira started her studies in college as Rick left for the mission. All this was about to get harder as the part of the country where the mission was , had no phone network. The only way they could communicate was through letters. This was going to be the most challenging part of their relationship.
Adeira wrote a letter to Rick almost daily. Rick had a chance of replying only once every two weeks. Despite their poor communication love still conquered all. She expressed her love for Rick everyday. She missed him and wrote how much it was hard for her to be far from him.
Rick felt sad too but he had to do this. He knew that if this mission was successful, he could now venture fully into the family business as he would have proven himself worthy. He had to not only prove he was capable as a rightful heir but also physically, mentally and emotionally. The vigorous training was not easy. He not only passed that but this was his second and final mission.
The days were moving so fast and in not time, Adeira was getting ready to close the school year. The mission was finally over and Rick was over the moon. Adeira went home. She was finally done with her first year. She enjoyed doing her studies. It was not always easy but she felt fulfilled as this has always been her dream.
Rick went to visit Adeira at home. He enveloped her in a hug. This had been the longest year ever. Preparations had begun for Christmas holidays. Rick spent a whole week with them. Adeira's mother felt a little concern as Rick had not introduced them to his family. They only knew his cousin. She talked to Adeira and they decided to ask him about his family. Rick promised to take Adeira home after the Christmas holidays.
After spending a few more days with them, he received a call at work that needed him to report immediately. One of their camps had been attacked by terrorists. Adeira was reluctant to let him go. Rick invited his cousin to a small party at Adeira's home the night before he left. Adeira had gone to the restroom when she came back and found Rick holding a ring. He was kneeling on one knee. She could not believe Rick was proposing. She immediately said yes as they embraced each other.
Rick then kissed her and assured her that once he comes back, they would go together to his home and arrange their wedding. They all celebrated and ate and drunk till late. He was to help the camp for two weeks then come back. He left early the next morning and headed to the camp.
Adeira sent two letters to him and waited for him to reply during the weekend. Days went by but she never received a reply. The two weeks were finally over but still no reply. She decided to call Nelson and ask about his whereabouts. He told her he had not heard anything from Rick. Adeira was worried sick as she started to prepare to go back to college. The Christmas holidays were finally over and she reported to school.
She stayed at school for a few days and decided to visit Nelson that weekend. She came back home. Nelson still had no news from Rick. She could not concentrate in class. She knew so little about Rick. She had to talk to Nelson to find more about Rick from his parents or from work. He promised her to do all he could and find out what happened.
Adeira kept on going to college and coming back home. She had to know what was happening, she had an eerie feeling about all this.
