On the mountain at night, the wind was strong. Evelyn could always hear sounds that made her skin crawl, and it seemed like something was following her between the bushes on both sides.
Summoning her courage, she kept walking forward. Not far ahead, a snake blocked the road, sticking out its blood-red tongue towards Evelyn.
"Ah—"
Evelyn screamed in fright and instinctively started running back.
She didn't dare look back, and in her mind, she imagined the snake's gaping mouth, feeling powerless as she stumbled to the ground, yet forcing herself to muster the strength to flee, in total panic.
"Evelyn!" Not far away, Caden Lockwood's voice came, "I'm here! Evelyn!"
Evelyn, so frightened she almost lost her hearing, knew only to run for her life.
When Caden's large hand grabbed her, she was trembling all over with fear.
