Serena Stanton still didn't reply.
Adrian Shaw held onto his last shred of dignity, his voice emerging from the depths of his throat:
"Just say you love me, and we'll pretend everything that happened during this time never did, and go back to how things were."
Another wave of silence followed.
Adrian felt as if a knife had been viciously stabbed into his heart, the blade twisting mercilessly, the pain penetrating his bones. In that moment, his eyes reddened vulnerably, enveloped in a dampened despair.
He leaned his head back against the sofa, staring at the ceiling, like a soulless empty shell, devoid of emotion. A single tear silently slipped from the corner of his reddened eye, extremely quiet.
Serena remained speechless, as Adrian rose to sit up, his long legs spread wide, his back sinking in dejection, sitting completely still, emanating an aura of despondency and disarray.
