Reed's POV
"The Zach family just handed over their entire company to her like it was nothing. She's their heiress."
Jenifer Zach. Kolton Zach. The same damn surname staring me in the face this whole time. How did I miss something so blindingly obvious? All along, I was dead certain she was just—I cursed myself for being such an idiot.
I grabbed my phone and dialed Jenifer's number.
The moment she picked up, my heart hammered against my ribs. Nerves shot through me like electricity. "Jenifer?"
"Reed, if you're calling to grovel for Lorelei, don't waste your breath. I already warned you. She didn't listen, and that's her problem to deal with."
Her voice cut through me—ice-cold and dismissive. She didn't even let me get a word in before continuing, "She crossed every line imaginable, and now she gets to face the consequences."
Panic flared in my chest. She had it all wrong. "No, Jenifer. I swear on everything—this has nothing to do with Lorelei."
