I shot an icy look at both father and son, my eyes finally settling on Romano, who was tucked safely in Reed's arms.
This boy—the one I'd nearly died bringing into the world, the child I'd devoted years of my life to raising—was now standing with his father, accusing me because of another woman. The same child I treasured above all else had just lashed out at Natalia, nearly causing her pain.
While Reed's coldness stung, it was my son who wounded me deepest.
I swallowed hard, forcing down the sharp pain in my chest, and managed a distant smile as I kept my gaze fixed on Romano. "Romano, there's no need for apologies. I'm not your mother anymore. From this moment on, you can call whoever you choose 'mommy.' Anyone you want as your mother—let them fill that role."
