Chapter 9 - The Unfinished Business

Gideon then stepped forward towards the woman before dropping the truck keys in her hands. "I came to return your truck, and these are the keys. Thanks for helping me."

The woman laughed. "How do you intend to go back home now that you have returned the keys to me?"

Gideon then pointed his fingers to his left, where he had parked the bike he had come with. "I will use that as my ride home."

After saying this, he turned and got on the bike. "Old woman, I don't know what a person like you would be doing in a dense forest like this, but just be careful, okay?"

The old woman chuckled softly before replying, "Yes, I will be fine, you don't have to worry about me."

After the woman finished what she was saying, Gideon chuckled with slightly raised lips before riding away.

The next day, Gideon resumed work, though he had passed the night in a hotel. Clara, his colleague, trembles anytime she sees him. He had explained to her that he is very much alive, but still she can't let herself accept what he had said.

Muzan was seated at a chair, and Gideon dropped some documents on the desk for him to check out.

Muzan slightly lifted his gaze before dropping it on the document before him. "This case is the reason you went missing for three years. Don't tell me you are still interested in the case."

Though it wasn't fully verified that Gideon died, the only verification Muzan saw was a photo and video of his dead body sent by an anonymous person from the Black Bull Cartels. Gideon's body was never found physically.

Gideon then took a deep breath before replying, "Sir, the reason I can't let go of this case is because I have made some discoveries that led to my father's death sixteen years ago."

Muzan shook his head dismissively. "I disagree with anything you are trying to come up with, I can't let you risk your life like before again. If I had known that this would happen three years ago, I wouldn't have let you in on this case." Muzan pushed the document away.

Gideon then sighed deeply, his head down, his teeth gritted, and gradually he lifted his head. "If you are truly my friend, let me continue this case, and I swear I will get to the bottom of this, I will make sure the two men who had died years ago get their justice and as well, make sure my father gets his as well."

Gideon was determined when he spoke. He had treasured his job so well that he wouldn't mind risking his life as he had done before.

After seeing how determined Gideon was, Muzan finally agreed. "So what do you want me to do?"

"I want you to allow me to reopen the case again. Clara told me you have requested that the case be forgotten because the Black Bull cartels were involved in it. If we keep giving those thugs wings to fly, they will surely outmatch us, and we will be nothing more than clowns in cops' clothing."

After hearing what Gideon said, Muzan sighed before nodding. "Very well, you are allowed to do anything you want. Do you want Clara to assist with it like before?"

Gideon sternly shook his head. "No, it will be better if I do this alone, she will only get in my way and slow my process."

Muzan relaxed softly on the chair, with a deep breath. "Okay, you are free to work on the case alone."

Gideon smiled before turning to walk, but Muzan's voice cut in. "Won't it be better if you take a rest for now because you barely recovered from what had happened to you?"

"A true police officer knows his duty, which means resting is not part of it," Gideon replied bluntly before walking out of the office.
