Here for me?
I blinked twice, trying to process what Grandma Clarice had just said, but none of it made sense.
"Who is here and why do they want me?" I pressed, hoping she'd explain better.
Grandma Clarice stared at me with eyes as wide as saucers. For the first time, I saw real fear in them.
The lack of confidence in those usually sharp grey eyes stole the breath from my lungs. I swallowed hard, glancing at the door as another loud bang echoed through the house, then back at her.
She said nothing. She was still muttering under her breath, shaking her head.
I let out a shaky breath and took a step closer. "Can you please just talk to me…"
A sharp crack of lightning cut through my words. I jumped, biting back a curse as I stared at the window.
I winced and looked away quickly when a blinding flash lit up the room.
"Quick!" Grandma Clarice whispered. Her hand locked around my arm. Before I could say anything else, she started pulling me up the stairs.
