Phoebe's POV
The shareholders weren't looking at me with that same terror anymore.
At least they could see I wasn't the monster the rumors painted—I was letting the cops handle this mess. That seemed to calm their nerves, though Sergio's panic was clearly spiraling out of control.
"Phoebe, how dare you! I'm your father, your only family in this world!" Sergio roared, making a desperate dash for the conference room door.
His chest was rising and falling rapidly, and I could practically hear his thoughts racing.
Why wasn't I following their pathetic little script?
They'd figured if they pushed me far enough, I'd snap in front of everyone.
No matter what excuse I gave, hitting my dear old dad in public would destroy my reputation with the shareholders.
That was Sergio's whole reason for showing up today—drag me into a trap and keep me busy while his accomplices delayed Harold.
Too bad all their scheming had backfired spectacularly. I wasn't even slightly rattled.
