Phoebe's POV
Alan shot Lucas a sharp look. "Come on, aren't you excited too? Sure, the Ellis aren't exactly elite, but those research facilities they control? Pretty damn valuable.
"Why not just seize them? Would be perfect for my family's medical empire to absorb their assets."
Lucas's eyebrow arched. "Really? Could you think of a weaker excuse?"
I could tell Lucas found the idea laughable—the Kemp clan, one of Clearwater's powerhouse families, needing scraps from some Ellis labs? People would die laughing if they heard that nonsense.
Alan glowered back. "Let's not tear each other apart here—that's what friendship's about." The pair kept going at it, too wrapped up in their argument to catch how strangely quiet Harold and I had gotten.
"Phoebe, what's your angle with the Ellis?" Harold cut through their bickering, his attention fixed on me. He could sense my eagerness to jump in.
Those meager resources? Even if the Ellis handed them over for nothing, he couldn't care less.
