Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: That Man is a Jerk

As the convoy drove off, Mo Yichen leaned back in his seat, eyes narrowed with interest.

"Wen Mianmian…"

He repeated her name slowly, tasting the sound of it.

A faint smirk tugged at his lips.

"Lu Zikai," he said without looking away from the window.

"Yes, boss?" Lu Zikai answered immediately from the passenger seat.

"I want you to find every detail about that lady and bring it to my desk.

"Yes, sir."

The assistant nodded, already guessing it was the lady from earlier.

Mo Yichen tugged at his tie, loosening it slightly, but the smirk never left his face.

Meanwhile, Mianmian decided returning to the office would destroy her last three brain cells.

So she went straight to a café, ordered a cup of latte and slumped into a single seat.

"I can't believe that man… aisssh," she muttered.

She lowered her voice and mimicked him dramatically,

"'I don't accept interviews.'

'I don't drink coffee.'"

She scoffed and lifted her cup.

"Oh he's missing out; this is literally the best thing in the world."

She raised the cup to her lips, and out of nowhere, his face appeared in her mind.

Cold eyes. Sharp jawline. Infuriating beauty.

She choked on her coffee.

Cough! Cough!

"Ugh! What are you thinking, Mianmian?! That man is a jerk!"

She slapped her cheeks gently to reset her brain.

Trying to clear her mind, she dialed Wang Hao, her boyfriend.

He picked up on the first ring, sounding exhausted.

"Mianmian…"

"Gege, what's wrong? You sound tired."

"I didn't tell you… my dad's company ran into some trouble. My brother and I were dealing with it. I just got home and I'm really tired… I'm sorry, we won't be meeting today. I just really need to rest."

Mianmian's face fell instantly.

"Oh… okay. Rest well."

"I'll make it up to you tomorrow, I promise" Wang Hao said.

She didn't respond, just hung up.

Something felt off.

They hadn't seen each other for a whole week.

Every day, it was a new excuse.

Busy.

Working.

Tired.

Her chest tightened with unease.

She stayed in the café until evening trying to cool her brain.

Finally, she decided to head home.

As she walked down the sidewalk, her phone buzzed.

Yuqi.

"Mianmian!! How did it go?" Yuqi shouted excitedly through the phone

Mianmian let out a dry laugh.

"You don't want to know."

"Never mind then. Just come to Auntie Wang's shop. Yuze and I are here!"

"Okay," she sighed.

She ended the call just as loud shouting erupted from across the street.

Music, laughter, and wild yelling spilled out from a club nearby.

A large black van pulled up in front of it, and a group of young men and women hopped out, laughing loudly and stumbling around.

Then two figures stepped out of the van last...

a man and a woman.

The woman wrapped her arm on the man's arm clinging to him intimately.

They were close.

Too close.

They were giggling, whispering into each other's ears.

A flickering streetlight illuminated the man's face...

Mianmian's heart dropped into her stomach.

'Wait… is that... Wang Hao?!'

Her eyes widened.

Her breath stopped.

She stood frozen on the sidewalk, staring at her boyfriend holding another woman intimately.
