Chapter 48 - Unexpected Danger

Cloud quickly react and stand up to fight. But his vision has not yet adjusted to the darkness.

He can't see anything for the time being.

But he can't just wait for his vision to adjust either. He knows that there are enemies around and they probably have spotted him already.

After standing up, Cloud quickly took a defensive position. He crossed his arms in front of him and he brace his body for incoming attacks.

Another loud growl came from the side. It seems angrier this time.

Following the growl is some quick and heavy footsteps.

The footsteps is getting closer and Cloud turn his defense toward the direction of the sound.

All of this happened so suddenly that he didn't have time to think about dodging.

In a blink, a heavy creature is colliding with Cloud from the front. It is what that felt like to Cloud at least.

The force from the creature is more powerful than what Cloud expected. He feels like being hit by a truck.

It's what he imagine being hit by a truck would be like.

The force send him flying to the back. After a second, his body hit a wall.

Cloud clearly felt the damage he received from the creature. It is not something that he can ignore but he didn't receive a significant injuries either.

Even though Cloud hit a wall, he didn't go down. He feels the wall behind him with his hands then he prepare himself for another attack.

As expected, another growl came from another direction. The sound of quick footsteps are approaching him again.

Cloud is ready this time and he turned his focus to the sound instead of sight.

He listened carefully to the footsteps and dodge while timing it with the sound.

He successfully avoided the attack and a crashing sound came from behind after he jump to the side.

The creature made no sound even though it crashed into a wall at full strength.

This makes Cloud think about what creature he's dealing with. Cloud understand right away that it must be something that used its head often for attacks.

From the size that Cloud felt when he collided with the creature, it doesn't seem to be something that's small and excessively large either.

Cloud rules out goat, bull, buffalo and the like.

Goat is too small, buffalo and bull are too large in this space.

Cloud already determine that the creature must be a spirit beast. When he got hit, he felt that the force is strong enough that it must come from a spirit beast.

Creatures weaker than that doesn't have that kind of force.

Since it's a spirit beast, the size would also be bigger compared to their normal counterpart.

So bull and buffalo wouldn't fit in this tight, 2 meters high space.

As for goat, the collision Cloud felt definitely did not come from something so small.

Just when Cloud is thinking more, the creature makes a few snort and start attacking him again.

Cloud dodge all the attacks by timing it with the sound until his eyes adjust to the darkness.

After dodging two more times, his eyes has starting to adjust to the darkness. He starts to see the silhouette of the creature.

It is a big black boar. Cloud's vision hasn't completely adjusted to the darkness but he can clearly guess from the silhouette.

And there are two of it around Cloud.

Since his eyes are starting to adjust and he starts to see more clearly, Cloud then prepare to go on the offensive.

He can only defend before since he can't see. Now, it's time for his counterattack.

But it is the first time that Cloud need to fight two spirit beast at once. He need to be super careful or he might get seriously injured.

Cloud focus on the beasts while slowly drawing his blade.

He always keep his blade on his right waist even though he is right handed. It is a bit unorthodox since usually, only left handed people keep their weapons on the right.

It is so that they can easily draw the weapon with their dominant hand.

But Cloud never do it in the Orthodox way. He didn't learn the Orthodox way. He always draw his blade with his right hand in reverse.

After drawing it, he would then flip the blade to the right way.

Why this is the case, there is no particular reason. He just always do it that way.

After drawing the blade and flipping it, the boars are also ready to attack. They charge toward Cloud one after another.

Cloud is also moving this time. He also starts his attacks.

One boy and two beasts are charging toward each other.

Cloud avoid the first boar by jumping and rolling to the side. Then he used the wall as a support to launch himself toward the side of the second boar.

He slashes his blade to the boar's belly.

The boar snort in annoyance but it didn't stop.

Cloud also realizes that his attack were too shallow. The boar's skin is thicker than expected.

He quickly adjust and prepare himself for the next clash. The boar has also turn around at this point. They are preparing to charge again.

Cloud tighten his grip on the blade and charge again.

Just like before, Cloud avoid the first boar and go for the second one. He is planning to step in further this time.

But as he avoid the first boar, the second one turn to where he jump and crash into him hard.
