Half a day passed, and by four in the afternoon, I and 15 other veterans got off the truck and began entering the jungle.
Christopher Brown wiped some mud across his face, while other veterans collected leaves to use as nighttime combat camouflage. Others tore open compressed biscuits, took a bite, and then gestured to me if I wanted any.
I shook my head.
Christopher looked at me and asked, "Tobby, you're the captain now, how do you want to attack?"
I leaned against a tree. I didn't shirk the role of captain and said, "Patience is a virtue. Based on David Williams's personality, he might try to show me up by acting alone rather than using tactics. The rest of them banding together is nothing to fear; it actually gives us an opportunity."
Christopher replied, "Tobby, your judgment is still sharp. That guy sure likes to show off and prove himself by going solo."
