Chapter 3 - First Intent

After revising all the information provided by Nexus, Eden realises a few things. He is within an isolated space with incredible mana density known as "Edenfall'; this mana density was due to his "slumber" here.

According to the records kept by the caretaker, the time stamps spanned over hundreds of years. He understood that this garden was created to house him while he was in stasis. Now with a will of his own, Eden decided he wanted to understand what was happening, and to do so, he needed to find the creator of this archive, the caretaker.

Eden sighed with the weight of complexity. Going from the mind of a newborn to that of an aged scholar over a few hours was taking a toll on his brain. He rises.

"Nexus, is there anyone around here?"

[No, using Mana Perception, I cannot detect any living beings in the immediate area. There seems to be active warding magic.]

"What's warding magic?"

Nexus replies with a low hum.

[Warding magic is a type of magic focused on protection; it deflects or turns away harm, evil, or misfortune using spells, rituals, sigils, or enchantments, creating magical barriers or traps to safeguard people, places, or objects from malevolent forces or unwanted energy.]

"Ok...so there are other types of magic?"

Nexus then goes on to explain a multitude of magic. The main highlights of this few-hour-long explanation are that there are many types of magic, but they are usually categorised into: Offensive, Defensive, Summoning and miscellaneous. There are also aspects to magic, such as Elemental, Holy, Divine, Abyssal and Arcane.

Eden processes the newfound knowledge on his own terms. The long narration of a magic lecture whirling in his brain. It was a LOT.

Eden sighs, but then lights up.

"Can I do magic?"

[Yes, any living entity can perform magic.]

After hearing this, Eden gets ecstatic.

"What can I do?" He asks, voice brimming with anticipation.

[Your ability to create, understand and cast magic has already been processed.]

"Huh? What do you mean?"

Nexus hums with ethereal presence as 'he' answers.

[I hold the capacity to directly influence and instil knowledge into your brain, induce muscle memory and replicate and/or generate necessary data.]

"So that's why I can speak and understand even tho I didn't learn that?"

[Correct, as such, the basics of magic and how to perform it have already been instilled into your being.]

With that, he rises to his feet and leaves the building. The once surging mana seemingly no longer a pain to perceive, as if his body and mind have caught up to being around its presence.

"Why does seeing the mana in the atmosphere no longer hurt?"

[This is due to you now being superior to the mana in the immediate area.]

"I see.." Eden replies. He decides that he wants to explore the space a little more. Moving throughout the space, he sees a lot of different flora, which he doesn't absorb but simply admires their beauty. With the thought of still searching for the caretaker, he continues to move through Edenfall.

As he moves through the space, he realises that there is not much to it; there is the centrepiece where he slept, a surrounding garden, cultivated by the mana density of the area, and a surrounding forest.

"How do I leave Nexus?" Eden thinks.

[I have detected a distorted spatial rift; the destination co-ordinates are not fixed.]

"So it'll leave me somewhere random?"

[Affirmative.]

Eden realises this means that he's gonna enter the real world. The land outside of this domain is documented by the caretaker. Veila.

Veila, a lush green world with incredible technology and magic, is a dystopian masterpiece across the galaxy. Or at least, that's what the book said.

Eden sits in the grass of the garden, surrounded by beautiful flowers that shimmer, and even a few of them produce a sweet aroma as a golden nectar oozes from their centre.

He comes to the decision that he will leave, but only on the condition that he understands what he can do, afterall he is well aware of the dangers of Veila.

Let's start small, he thinks.

Eden raises his left hand into the air above his head. He's casting magic for the first time, and as Nexus has instructed, he needs to feel his way through it.

He closes his eyes and exhales. He feels his mana, its complexity, its capacity, its output. He tries to feel his way through how to invoke the basics. And then, a spark. A bright blue flame catches, hovering over his palm, continuously fueled by his own mana and the air around him, which is just as mana-rich.

Feeling a tad bit proud of himself, he smiles. Reinforcing the process of invoking the basics to the point it becomes simply instinctive, he tries to do something a bit more complex. He pulls for a mental display of a spell stored by the caretaker and examines the accompanying elements. "Ice construct" was a spell intended to create ice based contructs to aid the user that were retained by mana, so they did not melt or break due to environmental conditions.

He realised that magic doesn't work by using a single aspect all the time, but also calls upon other elements and aspects to reinforce a spell's intended function. This spell utilised Ice magic, warding magic for reinforcing the intended shape of the construct and wind magic to pull the appropriate moisture to the designated construct spot.

Eden intended to use this spell practically, once again, but this time with his eyes open and intentions sharp. He calls for his mana. It took a bit for him to "feel the spell through, and then, the temperature shifted.

Small drops of ice materialised around him, reflecting light most beautifully; this urged him to concentrate, realising that there was an effect outside of the intended scope of construction. After a few hours of the spell breaking in the middle of casting, the flow being inturrupted numerious times due to his inability to fully pull it together, refining his mana and manipulating the moisture around him, with an exhausted breath, he tries to invoke the spell. Almost instantaneously, a polearm made of pure white ice materialised.

It was a simple weapon, and with intent, he thrusted. The spear pierces through the air and creates a clean whisp. He had done it. He had cast his first actual spell. He collapses to the ground, body riddled with fatigue and exhaustion from expending so much mana just to learn to compile the spell.

"And now I need to learn to use it."
