Deep within the Forbidden Forest, moonlight filtered through the canopy and dappled the forest floor in patches of silver. Charlie and the others were sprinting toward the castle.
But fate always did love a joke.
With a faint pop, the air rippled unnaturally.
The next second, a man in black robes appeared out of thin air, clutching the unconscious unicorn.
Charlie's pupils contracted instantly.
What the hell? Just when you're tired, fate hands you a landmine?
They had just decided to avoid a Dark wizard yet one appeared right in front of them like a door-to-door disaster delivery.
Quirrell, too, was stunned.
He'd merely wanted to relocate to a safer spot for his master to drink the unicorn's blood. Who could've predicted he'd apparate right into four Hogwarts students?
And among them Charlie White, the one who gave him the most headache.
Though only a first-year, Charlie's strength was anything but ordinary. Quirrell truly wasn't confident he could take him on.
Charlie, on the other hand, hadn't wanted a direct fight with a Dark wizard out of caution.
But now that the wizard had landed in front of him no point holding back.
He drew his wand immediately.
Strike first!
"Protego Totalum!"
A flick of Charlie's wand summoned four transparent shields, wrapping around each of them.
"Sectumsempra!"
Without hesitation, Charlie followed up with a lethal curse.
An invisible blade of force sliced through the air straight at Quirrell.
Quirrell's face twisted in shock.
This brat led with dark magic?
"Protego!"
He scrambled to raise his shield, barely blocking the attack.
But his barrier was clearly weakened.
Charlie raised an eyebrow.
So this so-called Dark wizard wasn't as strong as he'd feared.
"Duro!"
Charlie's wand pointed to the ground, transfiguring the stones into dozens of wolverines.
The vicious creatures howled as they charged toward Quirrell.
Then, with another wave, Charlie transfigured the tree leaves into a flock of birds that swarmed toward their enemy in a screeching black cloud.
"Sectumsempra! Sectumsempra! Sectumsempra!"
He unleashed wave after wave of the slicing curse.
And in between, he even had time to cast:
"Protego Maxima!"
layering another shield over himself.
His attacks flowed like a river relentless and precise.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione were utterly stunned.
He attacked the moment they crossed eyes?
This Dark wizard must've committed capital offense!
They always knew Charlie was strong but not like this.
This wasn't a first-year student.
This was a damn combat machine!
Quirrell's situation could be described in one word: hellish.
Wolverines were biting, birds were pecking, and invisible blades rained down like a storm.
"Serpensortia!"
Quirrell shouted through gritted teeth, summoning a massive serpent to coil protectively around him.
The snake opened its jaws to attack but the wolverines swarmed up its body without fear.
"Protego! Protego!"
Quirrell could do nothing but keep spamming shield charms, struggling to hold on.
He wanted to counterattack, but Charlie was casting like a living wand turret.
If not for Charlie's inexperience in live combat resulting in his transformed wolverines and birds getting in the way of some of his own Sectumsempras Quirrell might've already been shredded.
Inside, Quirrell was screaming.
He'd spent a month finding this unicorn, and now he was being absolutely dominated by a student.
Voldemort's cold voice hissed from the back of his head.
"You pathetic fool, humiliated by a child."
"Relax… let me handle this."
The next moment, Voldemort seized control.
Using magic himself now would likely throw him into a dormant state but the situation had escalated beyond caution.
If he didn't act now, Quirrell would die and that would force him to flee empty-handed.
A cloud of black smoke burst from Quirrell no, from Voldemort now.
The smoke erupted skyward, shrouding everything.
In an instant, Charlie's transfigured wolverines and bird swarm vanished.
Charlie cursed aloud.
This guy had a second phase?! Who's the main character here you or me?
Beside him, Harry suddenly clutched his scar and collapsed in agony.
"Ahhh it hurts!"
His scar burned like it had been branded with a red-hot iron.
Ron and Hermione rushed to hold him, but neither knew what to do.
Charlie couldn't spare the attention.
Because the aura of the black-robed figure had completely changed.
If Quirrell earlier had been a cornered rat
Now, he was a venomous serpent, fully awake.
Dangerous. Extremely dangerous.
"Avada Kedavra!"
A flash of green light erupted from Voldemort's wand, rushing toward Charlie with murderous intent.
Charlie's eyes shrank to pinpoints.
His wand moved in a blur.
"Duro!"
The stones before him transfigured into thick shields, layer upon layer.
The Killing Curse struck the shields with a hiss, but only let out a puff of black smoke.
Deadly as it was, the Killing Curse only worked on living beings.
Against inanimate objects? Useless.
Still, the mere proximity of that green light had made Charlie's hair stand on end.
The aura of death had never felt so real.
Yeah, he'd been right to turn back earlier. Dark wizards were no joke.
Voldemort, too, hadn't expected Charlie to block the curse.
He paused, but quickly adjusted tactics.
Flames burst from his wand, sweeping toward Charlie like a firestorm.
The temperature soared, leaves shriveled, and the air shimmered.
Charlie turned his wand toward a nearby stream.
"Aguamenti Maxima!"
Water surged up, forming a mighty torrent that crashed into the flames.
Steam exploded outward, thick and blinding.
Charlie didn't hesitate.
"Obscura!"
Thicker fog erupted from his wand, mixing with the steam to form a suffocating mist.
Under cover of darkness, visibility dropped to zero.
Voldemort sensed his intent.
With a sweep of his wand, a ring of flames ignited around him.
He stood at the center, protected from sneak attacks.
"Clever boy…"
"Your talent is exceptional. Kneel to me, and I will grant you glory… and life."
His words slithered like a snake, tempting and sinister.
But Charlie didn't reply.
Because the moment the fog rose, he'd already begun sprinting toward Voldemort.
His steps were masked by the crackling of fire. He moved through the mist like a ghost.
As soon as he saw the ring of flame, Charlie activated his Animagus form.
A crimson Fireball dragon burst from the fog.
Its scales shimmered in the firelight.
Flames? Laughable. To a fire dragon, this was a warm bath.
The fire ring was useless.
Charlie charged through the flames his massive claw slamming straight into Voldemort.
Blinded by the mist, trapped in a borrowed body, Voldemort never saw it coming.
The claw struck true Quirrell's body crumpled under the blow with a crack, chest collapsing.
Blood gushed from his lips, gleaming in the moonlight.
"Damn it…"
Voldemort lay in agony.
He, the great Lord Voldemort, had been taken down by an eleven-year-old?
Unforgivable.
But there was no time for pride Quirrell's body was spent.
Useless.
With a curse, Voldemort made his exit.
A trail of black smoke slipped from Quirrell and vanished into the dark.
Charlie, still in dragon form, remained on high alert.
But cloaked by night and fog, he failed to notice the escaping wisp of smoke.
Voldemort had fled.
And with his departure, Quirrell's mind returned.
Agony flooded back like a tidal wave, and he let out a wretched shriek.
"My kidneys!!"
His voice was full of despair and misery and then his neck flopped sideways.
Still.
Charlie flinched from the sudden cry.
His heart nearly stopped.
What the hell?! Is this guy reviving?
No loose ends.
Charlie raised his massive claw and brought it down again
[Your Majesty is desecrating corpses… How brutal. Tyrant Points +10]
The system's message made Charlie pause awkwardly.
…Right. Final death throes.
He returned to human form and flicked his wand.
The fog began to lift. The fire dimmed.
Moonlight spilled across the battlefield, revealing the devastation.
Not far away, Harry had passed out from the pain.
Ron knelt beside him, slapping his cheeks in panic.
"Harry? Harry, wake up!"
Hermione ignored Harry for now she sprinted to Charlie.
He might be more injured than anyone realized.
Her eyes were full of concern.
"Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
Charlie shook his head.
"I'm fine."
Only then did Hermione exhale. Her legs nearly gave out.
That battle had been terrifying.
Curses, fire, chaos… She'd never seen anything like it in her life.
Charlie looked around.
The ground was scorched, a few trees burned and cracked, leaves withered.
The air reeked of smoke.
And the most horrifying sight-
A mangled, unrecognizable pile of flesh.
Charlie frowned and conjured a heavy cloth to cover the remains.
Then he stepped over, crouched down, and pulled back the hood.
Moonlight illuminated the face.
Both he and Hermione gasped.
"Professor Quirrell!"
