Chapter 6 - You Lied to Me

These rogue vampires suddenly spat out blood as the gurgling sound of *Spurt* and *squelch* rang out, which indicated the vampires spitting out blood.

Their eyes widened because the man had only stepped out and the sky changed. There had been no visible action which meant that all it took was a flick of his finger to completely turn them into bloody pulp– that is, if he gets serious.

Narlie stared at the back of the man that he married. Surprised that he didn't really do anything and they were all spitting out blood.

At least some part of the rumours weren't a lie. He was so freakishly powerful that even heaven and earth couldn't overwhelm him. It was quite an irony.

Suddenly, she felt so much safer. If before she had been any less insecure…feeling that her own father might one day decide to barge in and rip her out of his hands, then right now, she realised that he wouldn't let him.

Besides, he had clearly told her that he married her to rescue her from the bondage she faced in her father's house which means that he wouldn't just sit and watch her be taken away like that.

Narlie smiled, positioning herself behind him as her protector or shield. She even saw one of the vampire's arrow skills trying to strike at his blind spot but she used her own power to suspend the arrows approach, and with a terrifying force, she sent it back, instantly gutting the rogue vampire, as he scattered to the floor, dismembered.

Narlie immediately remembered that these vampires had split up in two groups, and that Constance and Alex were facing the same problem as they were.

"Your parents… what do we do about them?" She got his attention, and yet distracted from the prying eyes of these rogue vampires, they still couldn't harm him.

He pierced those mirror-like eyes into Narlie's calm grey eyes and Narlie actually trembled from that intense gaze.

"Do you want to go help them?"

Narlie did not answer for a while. But a moment later, she demanded.

"What is your name?"

This mysterious man chuckled softly, his hands raised slowly and finally rested on her cheeks.

He caressed her cheeks like he owned it before saying like, it didn't matter.

"My parents can handle themselves. Don't rush to their rescue. My father can be petty and kind, but he's as dangerous as I am. If I am the devil, then he is Satan."

Narlie suddenly shivered but boldly rebuked him.

"Don't say that…it's scary."

He laughed darkly.

"The rumours says so little Narlie, is there any reason to be so…how do I put it, *hmm*"

Narlie immediately cut in.

"They are just rumours. Yes you are a powerful Alpha, that must be why you had such a title tied to your name."

She tilted her head to the side asking. "In fact, why be ruthless when you can change people's opinion about you, by yourself?"

Her husband's eyes flashed and he turned sharply towards the rogue vampires and said coldly.

"Play times over…"

The moment he said that, every one around felt a bone-deep chill that filled the ambient atmosphere. The shocking part is that, while the vampires worked so hard, fighting to save their lives, he just stood in a position, his hands raised…

The higher his hands get, the terrifying the pressure builds around them to the point where it becomes suffocating.

Casually, he waved his hands and the next thing that Narlie witnessed is, these vampires exploding like something massive had pressed itself upon an insect.

"Mere ants…" he sneered, "wanting the blood of my newly wed even before I do."

Narlie immediately shivered at that statement… like, what the fuck does that even mean? Even before he does?

'Like? He wants to drink my blood?'

Narlie's eyes narrowed suspiciously at him for a while and once he turned, his cold eyes seemed to have softened and he said walking back to the carriage.

"My name is Damien."

Something warm suddenly settled at the bottom of Narlie's heart… she smiled stupidly and followed behind him and the next thing she knew was…

The carriage had started its journey once again.

The Imperial castle loomed further away making the journey much more enduring. From Narlie's town to the Imperial City and the Imperial castle is quite a journey in and of itself which is why it took exactly an entire night to get there.

At the break of dawn, they were within the Imperial City, the carriage passing through the early bustling city market lane. Before Narlie could relax, people started to whisper.

"It's another girl."

Narlie's body tensed.

Damien turned to her, a beautiful smirk spreading on his face like the setting sun.

She could hear the people murmur like whoever this girl is, is probably in some big soup.

She continued to stare at him, hoping that what he had said to her about hiring ladies for induction as the Merchant of Venice is true.

Narlie tried to mask her suspicion but he could see right through her. She was already nervous enough from the very beginning, and yet somehow, she had trusted him.

Was she wrong to trust him?

She suddenly heard another gossip from outside that caused her body to tremble.

"Two days ago, he married Mabel, and now he's with another woman. I wonder what trick he used this time."

The most annoying part is that these gossipers did not care that the devil in question was close by and had an excellent sense of hearing and yet, they brazenly discussed him like he wasn't there. But the best thing about this same man is that he wouldn't actually take action…which is one of the reasons why people dare act so presumptuously.

Narlie tried to smile.

She failed, there was something wry on her face that replaced the smile. "So you lied to me?"

Damien chuckled darkly…
