Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: DOJO DRAMA EXPLOSION

Chapter 48: DOJO DRAMA EXPLOSION

POV: Ivyn Mikaelson

[June 12, 2018 — Cobra Kai Dojo — 5:00 PM]

The entire dojo stood in formation. Gi uniforms crisp. Faces forward. The silence had weight, pressure, the feeling of a bomb about to detonate.

Johnny paced in front of us like a general addressing troops before a battle none of them wanted.

"So," he said finally. "One of you is dating the enemy's daughter."

Every head turned toward me. I kept my eyes forward.

"LaRusso called me. Saturday morning. Woke me up from a very pleasant hangover to inform me that one of my students—" he pointed at me without looking "—has been teaching his precious Samantha how to fight."

Miguel's voice came from beside me, small and hurt. "You didn't tell me?"

"It's complicated."

"She's a LaRusso. How complicated can it be?"

"Very."

Hawk, on my other side, was grinning like a maniac. "That's badass."

"Thank you."

Tory's laugh echoed from the back row. "Wait—you're dating a princess while fighting underground? How do you even have time to sleep?"

The words landed before I could stop them. Johnny's pacing stopped.

"Underground. Fighting." His voice was dangerously calm. "What underground fighting?"

"And there go the last of my secrets."

"There's a scene," I said. "Unofficial matches. Cash prizes. Viktor runs it."

"Viktor." Johnny turned slowly. "The guy who fixes my car?"

"He's branching out."

"Into illegal fight clubs."

"Into providing competitive opportunities for people who can't access traditional venues."

"That's the same thing with better marketing."

The dojo erupted into whispers. I could feel the walls of my carefully compartmentalized life crumbling around me.

"Fine. If everything's coming out anyway—"

I stepped forward, breaking formation. Johnny's eyes widened.

"Yes," I announced to the room. "I'm dating Sam LaRusso. Yes, I've been learning multiple fighting styles. Yes, I fight underground. Because I'm speedrunning becoming the best fighter in this Valley, and limiting myself to one path seemed stupid."

Silence.

Then Hawk started a slow clap.

One person joined. Then another. Within ten seconds, half the dojo was applauding while Johnny stood there looking like he'd bitten into a lemon and found it had bitten back.

"How are you not dead?" he demanded.

"Built different, Sensei."

[CONFESSION COMPLETE]

[Reputation: Cobra Kai — Significantly Increased]

[New Status: Legend in Progress]

Class resumed with an intensity that surprised even me. Johnny ran drills harder than usual, occasionally shouting "LaRusso's boyfriend, show them how it's done!" with varying degrees of sarcasm.

After the official session ended, the real conversations began.

Tory cornered me by the water fountain.

"Take me to the underground fights."

"That's not—"

"I wasn't asking."

Her eyes held the same hunger I'd seen when we first sparred. The need for something real, something raw, something that couldn't be found in a normal dojo.

"Friday night," I said. "Viktor's moving to the mall again."

Hawk appeared beside her. "Me too."

"You're both going to get hurt."

"That's the point," Hawk said, grinning. "Pain is weakness leaving."

"When did I become their role model? This is terrifying and also kind of amazing."

Miguel approached more hesitantly. "Is that why you're so good? The underground stuff?"

"Partly. It's real-pressure practice. No points, no refs, just you and someone who actually wants to hurt you."

"I want to see it."

"You want to fight in it?"

"I want to... understand. Where you go when you're not here."

Something warm spread through my chest. Miguel wasn't angry about the secrets. He was curious. Wanted to understand me better.

"Friday," I said. "All of you. Spectators first. We'll see about fighting later."

Johnny's voice cut across the dojo. "I heard that."

I turned. He stood in the doorway to his office, arms crossed.

"If you're gonna do stupid things, do them smart." He grabbed his jacket. "I'm coming Friday. Someone needs to make sure you don't get my students killed."

"Sensei, that's not—"

"Five years ago, I would've beaten sense into any kid doing what you're doing." He walked past me, pausing at the door. "But five years ago, I was drunk in a parking lot feeling sorry for myself. Maybe there's something to your insanity."

He left. The dojo sat in stunned silence.

Tory broke it first. "Did Sensei just approve of illegal fighting?"

"I think he approved of supervised illegal fighting."

"That's somehow more unhinged."

[NEW QUEST: Underground Field Trip]

[Objective: Take Cobra Kai crew to Viktor's venue safely]

[Reward: +200 XP, Group Reputation boost]

The gas station across from the dojo became an impromptu summit location. Seven of us crowded around the hot dog roller, because apparently near-death combat training made everyone hungry.

"How many are there?" Hawk asked, grabbing a hot dog with his bare hands. The cashier gave up on protesting three hot dogs ago.

"Depends on the night. Fifty fighters, maybe two hundred spectators at the mall venue."

"Any rules?" Tory's hot dog had more mustard than bread.

"Don't kill anyone. Don't bite. Don't go for the groin unless they do first."

"So no rules."

"Exactly."

Miguel ate his hot dog thoughtfully. "And you've won how many?"

"Most of them. Lost a few early on. Learned a lot from both."

My phone buzzed. Sam.

Sam: "My dad wants to have dinner. All four of us. Help."

I stared at the screen. Showed it to Miguel.

"Boss battle," he said immediately.

"Final boss," Hawk corrected. "LaRusso himself."

"Wear a cup," Tory advised. "Just in case."

Ivyn: "When?"

Sam: "Thursday. 6:30. Don't be late and please don't be yourself."

Ivyn: "Which self should I be?"

Sam: "Less chaotic. More normal."

Ivyn: "I don't know what those words mean."

Sam: "I know. I'm doomed."

Tory stole my Slurpee while I was distracted. I let her. The new dynamic forming around us felt strange and right—a crew built on shared intensity rather than forced proximity.

"Thursday dinner," I announced. "Friday underground. This week's going to be interesting."

"Your life is constantly interesting," Miguel said. "It's exhausting just watching."

"Imagine living it."
