"Aren't they first cousins? They're getting married?"
Kiara looked between Gerrad and Awan, trying not to let her surprise show on her face. In the modern world she came from, cousins were practically siblings, at least up to the second-cousin level. The thought of marrying one of them made her uncomfortable, and she had no intention of pretending otherwise in her own mind. However, this was the Phoenix family, where political marriages were hardly unusual, and she had no reason to interfere in a matter that did not concern her.
Besides, she had only just returned to the family. Starting an argument over their marriage customs would be a rather strange way to introduce herself.
Instead, Kiara put on a pleasant smile and nodded toward the young woman. "It's nice to meet you, Cousin Awan."
Awan smiled back, her expression warm and polite. "It's nice to meet you too, Cousin Kyra."
