Chapter 33 - Abnormal location: Danger level B

Mr. 01 and Ms. 03 showed a hint of fear as they looked through the documents.

SCP 0004, was harmless but a real headache file number.

The others were seeing this SCP file number for the first time, but for those two, it was far from their first encounter.

When the prototype version of the SCP Foundation had been created, Mr. 01 had been filing every little abnormal thing to earn extra money from the government.

And back then Mr. 01 had seen a photo on the internet of a child born with white eyes.

Since the child had been born in Korea, no experiments were conducted on him, but a brief investigation was done.

The only thing that separated him from other albinos was the snow white color of his pupils.

The file was then left to rot until three months ago. When a Korean researcher from the SCP Foundation heard news about a child who kept winning the lottery one after another, he decided to check.

When he checked, he discovered the child's unusual eyes and tried to create an SCP file under the child's name and send it to his superiors, but he found that there was already a file for this child in the system.

It was a low-security file, and its content information was nearly zero.

After the efforts of the Foundation worker, mid-level managers learned about the matter and consulted the higher-ups to decide what to do. After all, all single-digit SCP file numbers had been documented by Mr. 01.

And that was how Leo first caught the real attention of the SCP Foundation.

After reading the documents for a while, Mr. 05 finally expressed his surprise.

"A fancy car appearing out of nowhere, a body suddenly recovering to full health, and even the success of winning the lottery again and again... it looks more like he found a lamp that grants wishes. You are not treating the kid like an anomaly just because his eyes are white, right?"

The only woman in the room frowned at this small criticism and told Mr. 05 to keep reading.

When Mr. 05 scrolled down the file, he realized his thought had been too naive.

Of course, the other administrators of the SCP Foundation had considered that too, and three months ago, a team had been sent to capture the child for questioning.

By sheer bad luck, when the team members approached Leo's house, they were spotted by terrorists inside a nearby vehicle and killed.

Later investigations revealed that the terrorists who killed the team had been an assault squad sent by North Korea.

The assault team had mistaken the SCP Foundation uniforms for those of an intelligence organization, so they killed the Foundation workers and fled.

One month later, when another two-person team moved out to arrest the same individual, they died after being run over by a vehicle whose brakes had snapped.

Afterwards, it was speculated that Leo was extremely lucky, and a two-person team was ordered to observe Leo from two hundred meters away.

The fact that Leo's luck had no range was discovered when the team members were electrocuted and sent to the hospital while installing surveillance equipment inside Leo's house when Leo was not home.

Since it had been confirmed that throughout Leo's entire life, he had never caused the death of anyone other than Foundation members, no one attempted to install surveillance equipment in his house again.

Mr. 05 frowned as he looked at the strange nicknames some Foundation workers had given Leo.

Since Leo's house could not be monitored, the results of the investigation were nothing but speculation up to this point.

At that moment, Ms. 03 took over the conversation.

"In Korea, we still have very few Foundation workers, so I was the one who stopped the plan to install surveillance equipment in the house of SCP 0004 after the first two team losses. In addition, according to my investigation, SCP 0004 is not even aware of the deaths of the SCP teams. This personally led me to take a different approach."

"Keep talking."

"Why don't we raise all confidentiality levels related to SCP 0004's files to the maximum?"

Mr. 01 quietly guessed where this conversation was headed and nodded. As expected of someone chosen by him, he thought.

"And why would we do that?"

"I recommend hiding the fact that he is an SCP and offering him a job. His ability related to luck manipulation may not react as long as we are not directly targeting him. During this process, we can give him an ordinary Foundation member's life while collecting blood samples or performing full body scans under the name of routine check-ups."

Even though he had predicted all of this beforehand and was proud of Ms. 03's courage, Mr. 01 became the first to refuse without hesitation.

"Suggestion rejected and not open for discussion. Every SCP that enters the SCP Foundation must be contained. If you think I would risk the overall safety of the SCP Foundation because of the foolish gambling enthusiasm of a kid like you, you should stop thinking that right now."

The fact that Mr. 01 opposed so harshly shocked absolutely everyone in the room. Until that moment, everyone had thought it was feasible, but Mr. 01 left not even a crack for debate.

Realizing how tense the atmosphere had become, Mr. 04 finally stepped in with a smile.

"Haha, gentlemen, ladies, calm down. We are not enemies, are we? There is no need to be this harsh."

Unfortunately, Mr. 01 did not give him any face.

"So what will you do then. Will you punish me by making me stand outside the door with a bucket of water because I was rude?"

Mr. 04 swallowed as he looked into Mr. 01's eyes filled with killing intent, but he still maintained a smile on his face. Since he was responsible for external relations, he quickly calculated that backing down was the best choice.

"It looks like we are drifting off topic. Have you forgotten that the reason the SCP 0004 file was opened was because of the anomalies he displayed in the past week?"

"Heh, it is nothing important. The car issue is probably related to negligence from workers with faulty surveillance. As for the recovery, maybe he found some kind of medicine with extraordinary abilities like SCP 280. With his luck, it would not be surprising for him to find such a medicine."

At that moment, the hologram screens in front of everyone flashed red and then changed.

The new screen contained only a short text.

[An anomaly has been detected on the high-speed train in Seoul, Korea, and over the past three years, three different passengers have vanished without a trace. According to the initial assessment, danger level: B / Anomaly type: abnormal location]
