Chapter 787 - The Garden of Unspoken Truths

The Veyris Imperial Garden drifted quietly beneath a false sky of shifting stars.

Everything here was designed to feel calm.

Even reality itself softened its edges.

But calm didn't stop emotions from existing.

It only made them easier to hear.Morrigan stood still beneath a glowing tree whose leaves moved like slow-burning embers.

She wasn't in danger.

Not anymore.

That was the strange part.

She stared at the ground, voice quieter than usual.

…I keep trying to understand what I feel.

…But every answer leads back to him.

Her fingers tightened slightly.

Not in fear.

In hesitation.

…Kael Veyris didn't claim me.

…He didn't bind me.

…He just… let me exist.

A pause.

…And somehow that feels more binding than chains ever did. The air shifted gently.

Not aggressively.

Not dramatically.

Like the world remembering something soft.

Aphrodite appeared again.

Aphrodite

Her presence didn't overpower the garden it completed it.

Her hair flowed like liquid silk in endless waves of rose-gold, silver, and moonlight shimmer. Her golden-amber eyes carried warmth that felt almost human, even though it came from something far beyond humanity.

She looked at Morrigan calmly.

…You are not confused about him.

Morrigan blinked.

…I'm not?

Aphrodite shook her head softly.

…No.

…You are confused about yourself when he is near.

Silence followed.

Morrigan looked away.

…That sounds worse.

Aphrodite smiled gently.

…It is more honest. A soft sound of footsteps.

No announcement.

No grand entrance.

Just presence.

Kael Veyris stepped into the garden.

He stopped when he saw them.

…Aphrodite.

She nodded slightly.

…Kael Veyris.

Morrigan stiffened instantly.

Not from fear.

From awareness.

Aphrodite glanced between them.

Then spoke calmly.

…We were discussing emotions.

Kael paused.

…Is there a problem in the Empire?

Aphrodite smiled faintly.

…No.

…Just something developing inside it.

Kael looked at Morrigan.

…You are adjusting.

Morrigan hesitated.

Then nodded slowly.

…I think so. Aphrodite stood.

Her voice softened.

…She is not asking for power.

…Not asking for protection.

…Not even asking for answers.

She glanced at Morrigan.

…She is asking where she belongs in a story that no longer defines her.

Silence.

Morrigan looked at Kael.

Her voice came out quieter than she intended.

…If I don't belong anywhere…

…Is it wrong that I keep coming back here?

Kael answered immediately.

…No.

That was all.

No explanation.

No expansion.

Just acceptance.

And somehow, that made her chest tighten even more.Aphrodite smiled softly, almost knowingly.

…There it is.

Morrigan blinked.

…There what is?

Aphrodite turned slightly away.

…The point where logic stops working.

She looked toward Kael one last time.

Then toward Morrigan.

…Be careful.

…Feelings like that do not remain simple for long.

And with that, she faded gently into drifting rose light. The garden returned to quiet.

Morrigan stood there, still trying to understand herself.

Kael remained still beside her not closing distance, not increasing it.

Just present.

And for once in the Veyris Empire…

there was no war to stop.

no god to erase.

no universe to rewrite.

Only something far more unstable than all of them combined.

A beginning she didn't know how to name yet.
