By the time Bryarstone finally comes into view, I understand why everyone speaks of Bellaflor the way they do.
For days now, we've been passing through lands that hardly seem real. Even before reaching the capital, Bellaflor has been showing off without meaning to. Every village we crossed was surrounded by vast stretches of farmland so lush and green that it made the fields of other kingdoms look neglected.
Row after row of corn rose high and healthy in the sun. Acres of grain bent and shimmered like gold whenever the wind passed over them. There were orchards so large I lost count of them, filled with trees bowed under the weight of ripe pears, apples, plums, peaches, figs. Some fruits I recognized, and others I didn't.
And always—always—there were people working the land.
