Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - The Ball

"Ryo, pass the ball over here."

"Sure, you'd better catch it this time, Kaiya." I tossed the ball to my friend, and as expected, he still didn't catch the ball.

"I think that we should play another game, you're bad at this, Kaiya" I sighed, thinking we could play another game because he could not coordinate his new quirk properly.

"Sorry Ryo, I'm still trying to get used to my arms." He shrugged and waved the floating arms that were made of light.

"I wonder, when will I get my quirk? You reckon that it will be powerful?" I asked myself while looking at my friend's quirk.

"I think that you'll get some dumb quirk like creating leaves in your hand- oh hey look, I caught it this time!" he dances around cheerfully, being smug that he finally caught the ball.

"If I can pick, I'd go with super speed, I'd run around the whole world in like, ten minutes." Ryo uttered

Kaiya shakes his head, "Super speed? I'd bet that you'd trip over your own shoelaces" he said with a taunting grin. "ok, catch this back."

As I get ready to catch it I told him "Not if I had super speed! I'd tie them super fast."

Kaiya rolled his eyes at me and said "Fine. But if I had to pick, I'd choose telekinesis. Imagine being able to move things with your mind, No more getting up to get snacks."

Ryo shook his head. "That's just laziness disguised as power."

While shrugging Kaiya said "Hey, great powers can come from great laziness."

Ryo tossed the ball high again. "Okay, but what about flying?"

Kaiya caught it, but almost dropped it, then grinned. "Flying would be amazing. But only if you didn't have to deal with bugs hitting my face.""Bro, you could just wear goggles."

Kaiya paused. "Okayyy, yeah the goggles would solve that."

They kept throwing the ball back and forth, arguing after each catch, sending another idea soaring through the air right along with it.

— Ryo pov —

Kaiya tossed the ball again, and I jumped to catch it. But the moment my right arm stretched forward, something snapped inside me. My right arm suddenly started convulsing.

It's not a cramping that you get when you're tired

This is something different, Something deeper.

A sharp, burning pain tore through my entire arm, lightning-fast and blinding.

"G—ggh!!" I dropped to my knees, clutching my arm as heat surged under my skin. It felt as though someone was pouring molten metal through my veins.

"Ryo?" Kaiya's smile vanished. "Ryo! What's - what's wrong?!"

"I-I don't know-!" My breath quickens as the pain gets stronger and more pronounced. My fingers twitched uncontrollably, glowing faintly from the inside like a lantern about to crack.

Kaiya panicked immediately. "Okay-okay-stay here! Don't move! I'll find someone who can help us!"

He sprinted toward the park exit, arms flailing behind him, shouting for an adult.

I tried to scream, but no sound came out.

Then everything around me went silent.

A voice echoed inside my head...

A deep hollow voice that tries to tempt me

"Child… do you want power?"

My vision blurred as my arm throbbed violently. "Wh-what? Wh-who are you?"

"Answer! Do you wish for strength?"

The voice felt as if it were inside my bones.

"I don't— I don't want power!" I cried out, squeezing my eyes shut. "I want this pain to stop! I want my arm back to normal!"

A low, amused hum rolled through my mind.

The light in my arm flared, a painful and bright sensation.

I screamed...

— 3rd pov —

Kaiya's lungs burned, but the thought that something bad might happen to his friend made him faster.

He had to find an adult. Anyone. A hero, a parent, even someone who looked like they knew first aid.

He skidded to a stop when he saw a tall figure leaning against a tree near the sidewalk, he had a hood that made his face barely visible.

A shady man. Definitely not someone Kaiya would talk to on a normal day.

But right now, he was his only hope.

Ryo was screaming.

Kaiya didn't have time to choose.

"Mister! Please- please help my friend!" he gasped, grabbing the man's sleeve. "My friend's arm- something's wrong is happening to him, please HELP!"

The hooded man tilted his head slowly.

Kaiya didn't notice how the man's grin twitched wider under the shadow of the hood.

"Lead the way, child" the man said.

Kaiya ran back to the field, heart hammering. As they approached, Ryo's cries grew louder, echoing through the trees.

Ryo was curled on the grass, light pulsing violently from his right arm like it were struggling to break free.

The hooded man finally stepped fully into view.

He stared at Ryo's glowing arm, his eyes gleaming with something unnatural.

Then he whispered:

"Oh… what a great harvest it is today..."
