Chapter 1 - Prologue

Shine

I only have two more to go...

I can't believe it, two more actions and then I can go back to my normal life.

Twenty years have passed since that cursed day, since that single mistake that plunged me into this earthly limbo I wish upon no one.

The mercy and compassion so much praised are death traps for us, impartial beings, who have nothing to do with the human race.

But that single stain is about to disappear from my career, like something finally scraped away.

I sigh.

A month has passed since the last mission they sent me on, and the wait, so close to the objective, makes me nervous and nervous.

I pat my left wrist, where the black crescent remains only a mark, like an indelible tattoo. Nothing, it doesn't light up.

I huff and puff and get ready to bother my supervisor.

Raidow won't be happy to hear from me, but I'm so eager to finish this cycle that even listening to him cluck about broken rules and directions to follow seems less burdensome than this silence.

I close my eyes and call out to him.

"What was said, Shine?" he replies in his usual gruff tone.

"I'm bored to death here. Is it possible that after giving me two cases at once, there's absolutely nothing for me? I'm starting to think you're doing this on purpose..."

"Level Five Keeper Shine, what are you insinuating?"

"That you don't want me back on the jury," I reply sarcastically.

"I know it's not true, but it makes me happy to tease him and see his reaction.

"Don't you dare..."

"All right, all right, stop chirping. I'm bored to death." Is it possible there's no one in need of assistance right now?

- Not in your field of action, so...

- Sir, we have a problem! -

An excited voice interrupts us, and I hear very intense background noises and sounds.

- I'm leaving you, Shine, try to...

I don't even have time to hear his last words before a loud, siren-like sound fills my mind and shakes me. My pulse begins to pulse, the crescent moon lights up, and adrenaline rushes through my body.

This shell of flesh and nerves is too weak to contain my energy as I prepare for a space-time leap. I don't know how long it will last, but since I'm at the end of my punishment, I can destroy it without regret.

I take one last look at the coordinates sent to me and place two fingers, the index and middle fingers of my right hand, on my left wrist and close my eyes.

On stage!
