With Aurora, Mater was finally able to converse with Selina cat to woman.
The reality of the situation fell upon Selina. Everything was a little bit too hard to grasp but she accepted it in the end.
"So this is the NCE that once attacked us?" Selina said.
"She is not an NCE anymore. She is my minion." The Wight said. "Her name is Aurora."
"Why is she naked?"
"There were no clothes."
Selina quickly took a gray sweater out of her backpack and put it on Aurora.
The Glacial Wight touched the soft fabric gently. On it lingered the scent of sweet Selina.
"Thank you..." Aurora said.
"You don't need to thank me. I can't let you parade a naked woman around." Selina put a hand on her hips.
Mater meowed.
"Those were my minion's words. Not mine." Aurora translated the cat language.
Selina widened her eyes. "She has a mind?"
"Not really. She has a faded consciousness from when she was still alive." Aurora said.
"I need you to contact the ACPD, Selina. I think I found the missing people. They are all under the sewer."
"All nine of them?" Selina said.
"All nine. There is also a ritual site sealing a wraith inside. Tell the police that so they don't accidentally release it."
Selina nodded. She quickly picked up her phone and called Carpenter again.
Unfortunately, her phone was still unreachable.
"Carpenter isn't picking up. Let me call Detective Baltimore...
Yes... It's me, Selina Isles. I found the missing person on the undeveloped land near NEO Mall.
Yes, all nine of them, Detective Baltimore. Are they alive?"
Selina covered the phone and looked over to the black cat. It meowed once before Aurora translated what it said.
"They're alive." Aurora said.
"The missing people are alive, Detective." Selina said.
"Good. You stay right there. Don't do anything until we arrive." Alister's voice echoed from the other side.
"Wait, Detective! Where is Lucy? I tried calling her but her phone is out. I've been trying to get to her all day."
"Carpenter? I will look into it, don't worry."
Alister hung up the phone.
"Cole! Where is Carpenter?" Alister shouted to the hallway.
Cole was dealing with some paperwork at his table. He lifted his head up in a daze. Dark circles filled his eyes.
"She requested a day off. Some family business I heard."
"I see…" Alister grabbed his coat and got ready to go. "Selina is really efficient. Maybe I should assign a representative for her early…
Cole! Phone the DSI, we have work to do."
Back in the entrance of the sewer, Mater instinctively licked his fur while sitting in Aurora's arm. He didn't know why but doing this made him feel cleaner.
He did look cleaner and his fur was also smoother.
"So this is why cats lick themselves so much. It is a grooming behavior."
Selina walked around Aurora and observed her closely. She noticed the white and blue on the wight's body. It looked like some sort of artistic tattoo, making Aurora even more alluring than before.
Then she looked back at herself. She also had a tattoo.
"This cat definitely has a type." Selina thought silently.
Suddenly, a short figure appeared from afar and approached them. It was Rebecca the Paranorm Investigator.
"You?!" Rebecca blurted out. "And who is that girl?"
Selina sighed deeply. "What are you doing here Rebecca?"
"My friend was able to hack into the local water company's server. I suspect there might be something underground. But it seems like you beat me to it." Rebecca pouted her lips.
The short girl stepped forward and tried to get into the sewer.
"I called the ACPD. They'll be here soon to take the missing people. You shouldn't go in." Selina said.
"You found the missing people? Then I definitely have to check it out before the cops block everything."
Rebecca didn't listen to Selina like last time. She rushed into the tunnel.
But Aurora was there to stop her. The wight reached its hand out. Its cold emotionless eyes stared at Rebecca.
"Who are you? Get out of my way!" Rebecca pushed Aurora away. She felt the utmost coldness on Aurora's skin.
It was so cold that her hand felt a stinging pain.
Aurora lost all her strength and durability as a warrior. But her body was still a Glacial Wight. Aurora effortlessly pushed Rebecca back.
"Hey! Before the cops come, everything is fair game! What are you trying to do?"
Aurora stared at Rebecca. Her indifferent gaze suddenly had an anger beneath it. One that Rebecca didn't want to mess with.
"Stay out. Or else." Aurora said.
Surprisingly, Rebecca didn't talk back. She could feel bloodlust behind those words. Aurora was different from Selina.
Selina might tolerate her behavior. But Rebecca felt that Aurora would twist her head off if she tried to do so.
Rebecca gulped. "Fine. But I want to stay here and wait for the cops."
"Heh. This bitch finally knows fear." Mater meowed.
Aurora nodded. "That is fine."
On the other side of the city, inside a luxurious villa was a purple-haired boy. He sat inside the large stone basement.
The floor was filled with some type of ritualistic circle. If Mater was here, he should recognize the similarities between it and the ritual site under the undeveloped land.
The boy clasped his two hands tightly but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't connect to his Fury.
"That NCE isn't responding. I just felt a fade connection to it. But now it is completely severed. Who is behind this?" The boy rubbed his face aggressively. Everything kept going wrong the last few days.
The Embryo under David Rendell's house was discovered by the ACPD. Now even the Embryo in Tora Street was experiencing problems.
"Should I ask grandfather for help?
No… He would be disappointed in me. I need to figure this out myself."
Suddenly, his phone rang. The boy pulled out the phone from his pocket and took the call. It was his family's spy in the ACPD.
"I understand. Keep me posted if there is anything new." The boy hung up the phone.
It was as he suspected, the second Embryo was also discovered. He couldn't go to the ritual site anymore. Doing so would risk exposing himself to the ACPD.
"I can't send any men to that sewer either. There is only one way…"
The boy placed his hands onto the Ritual Circle. The Chaos within him stirred.
"Awaken! Awaken! Awaken my demon!"
Back in the sewer entrance.
Suddenly, the entire place shook.
"What is happening?" Rebecca tried to hold on.
"Shit! The ritual was activated remotely. The culprit decided to birth the wraith early." Mater growled.
He jumped onto Aurora's shoulder.
"The ritual is being activated. I need to take care of the wraith or everyone inside will die." Aurora said to Selina.
Then she and Mater dashed into the tunnel without looking back.
