Chapter Twenty -Two: Little bodies, Big secrets
Malik and Mara weren't like other five-year-olds.
They laughed like kids, fought like kids, and loved like kids…
But their minds were different.
Malik could break into systems with the same ease other children played games.
Mara could solve puzzles and math problems so fast it sometimes scared Angel.
And for days now, both of them felt it,
Something was wrong, something was very wrong at home and it started since that time Mara got lost at the park.
They saw it in the way Mummy stood still sometimes, like she was listening for something.
They saw it in the way Uncle Zahid's eyes sharpened whenever he checked the doors.
They felt it in the way the house seemed too quiet at night.
But what really frightened them was yesterday.
Mummy made them hide.
Mummy never made them hide, at most she'd hug them and sit on the floor.
One second she was playing with them…
