Chapter 38 - Where Light Dies

Where Light Dies

Chapter 48

Time passed.

How much-

No one knew.

Eidolon remained slumped in the surgical chair, his body motionless, his head tilted slightly to one side as if even gravity had given up on him.

The restraints that once held him in place now hung loose.

Unfastened.

Not broken-

Released.

Vaelor hadn't needed them anymore.

A thin veil covered Eidolon's face, draped gently from brow to shoulder. It clung in places where dried blood had stiffened the fabric, dark stains spreading across it like something that refused to fade.

His shirt was worse.

Soaked.

Dried.

Blackened.

What had once been blood now looked like something older. Heavier.

His chest rose faintly-

Barely.

Each breath shallow. Uneven.

Fragile.

He wasn't bleeding the way he had before.

But the damage...

It lingered.

Left behind in trembling muscles, in the weakness of his limbs, in the way his body seemed unsure if it should keep going at all.

A pitiful sight.

No-

Something beyond pity.

Something broken beyond naming.

Then-

A twitch.

Small.

Almost unnoticeable.

His right hand moved.

Slowly.

Dragging itself upward as though it weighed far more than it should.

Shaking.

Uncertain.

Until it reached the veil.

For a moment-

It stopped.

Hesitating.

As if some part of him knew-

That whatever waited beneath...

Should never be seen.

But he didn't have a choice.

His fingers tightened weakly.

And pulled.

The veil slipped away.

Revealing-

nothing.

...

Tears still came.

Even though there was nothing left to cry from.

They traced down his face in thin, trembling lines, slipping from hollow darkness where sight once lived-

As if his body refused to accept what had been taken.

Eidolon was awake.

But it didn't feel like it.

His breathing grew uneven.

Shallow.

Lost.

He tried to move.

To sit up-

To exist-

But his body didn't listen.

When he finally forced himself forward-

His leg struck something metal.

A sharp, hollow sound rang out.

The impact wasn't strong-

But to him-

It felt like everything.

A jolt.

A reminder.

A confirmation.

That the world was still there-

Even if he couldn't reach it.

Even if he couldn't see it.

His hand reached out blindly.

Grasping at nothing.

Air.

Emptiness.

To Eidolon-

The world had collapsed into something suffocating.

Cold.

Tight.

Endless.

Like being buried alive inside a space too small to breathe-

With no edges to find.

No walls to push against.

No escape.

Only darkness.

Only pressure.

Only-

Nothing.

His mouth opened.

A scream tore through him-

But no sound came out.

Not even a whisper.

His voice...

Was gone.

Panic surged.

Violent.

Uncontrolled.

He tried to thrash-

To fight-

To do anything-

But his body betrayed him.

Weak.

Unbalanced.

He slipped.

Collapsed.

Hit the ground without knowing where it was.

Again.

And again.

Each movement more desperate than the last-

Each failure more final.

There was no direction.

No sense.

No world.

Only a void he couldn't escape.

And for the first time-

Eidolon understood something.

Not in words.

Not in thought.

But in the way his body trembled-

In the way his mind fractured-

In the way his existence shrank into something small and helpless.

There was nothing left.

No path forward.

No way back.

No light.

No hope.
