"Thank you." It was the only word that came out of her mouth. She sat quietly for the rest of the journey, lost in thought, trying to figure out how to escape her dilemma.
How was she going to repay the families for the money they had given her? It seemed impossible now, especially since the company was under her uncle's name.
Riley bit her fingers, her mind blank despite her efforts to come up with a solution. The only option left was to talk to Mr. Blackwood. She was certain he would understand.
The car came to a halt at the junction leading to the Varkson mansion. The driver said, "We are here, ma. I can't go further. This is the Blackwood's vehicle. It can't be seen on the Varkson road without permission."
Riley was surprised. Was it really that serious? She nodded and opened the door. "No problem. I can find my way from here."
She stepped out and waited until the car reversed and disappeared from view. Then she started walking along the road leading to the mansion.
