MIA'S POINT OF VIEW

The door slammed behind him.

I stood there. Frozen. Staring at the closed door.

He was gone.

Alex was gone.

And he wasn't coming back.

Something inside me cracked. Like glass shattering. I felt it break. Felt the pieces scatter through my chest.

I screamed.

The sound tore out of me. Raw. Primal. Years of pain and anger and desperation exploding all at once.

I grabbed the nearest thing. A vase. Expensive crystal. A gift from my mother.

I threw it.

It hit the wall and exploded into a thousand pieces.

Not enough.

I swept my arm across the coffee table. Books. Magazines. A wine glass. All of it crashed to the floor.

Still not enough.

I went to the kitchen. Pulled open drawers. Threw plates against the wall. They shattered. Beautiful porcelain reduced to shards.

"She doesn't deserve you!" I screamed at the empty apartment. "I do! ME!"

I collapsed against the counter. Breathing hard. My hands were shaking. My whole body was shaking.

Eight years.
