"Sammy, open the door!"
Toby knocked the door aggressively, and Samantha opened it while clicking her tongue. "It's not locked, you know? No need to be so noisy."
Toby didn't care, though. He immediately rushed inside the bedroom while Samantha closed the door. Before it fully closed, she caught her big mama's gaze from the stairs, and they exchanged a secretive thumbs up.
Leave it to me, she mouthed before closing the door fully.
Meanwhile, the boy had climbed to her bed, where Hannah was sitting with folded knees, hugging Mr. Powder tightly to her chest. Her lower lip jutted out, and even though her cheeks were dry, her eyes were red.
"Hannah, what's wrong?" the boy gently held the hand hugging Mr. Powder. "Are you sick? Why do you want to go home? Are you angry at your papa?"
"Toby..." Hannah's lips slowly trembled. "Papa is going to leave Hannah for a week..." she paused, and her eyes became redder as she continued, "Daddy, too..."
