Chapter 49 - Cat cuddles

"Mitsuri, calm down. You're going to scare them away." Sanemi smirked and pulled Giyuu toward their friends' table. "Too late for that, snake boy. We're already here. And someone's extra hyper today, I see." Mitsuri beamed as they approached, practically bouncing in her seat. "We're just so happy! Obanai finally agreed to try the strawberry milkshake with me!" Obanai blushed slightly, adjusting his mask. "It's not a big deal. Just wanted to see what the fuss was about." Giyuu chuckled softly as he sat down, watching the couple's dynamic with amusement.

"I'm sure it's delicious. Almost as sweet as your relationship." Mitsuri giggled and playfully nudged Obanai, who tried to maintain his stoic expression but failed to hide his blush.

"See? Even Giyuu thinks we're sweet! Right, Sanemi?" Sanemi made a fake gagging sound, but there was no real malice in it.

"Ugh, spare me the sugar overload. Just don't get any of that lovey-dovey stuff on our table." Obanai shot Sanemi a warning look while Mitsuri pouted dramatically. "We're not that bad! Besides, you're one to talk - you're just as clingy with Giyuu." Sanemi's face turned red as he crossed his arms defensively.

"I am not! Giyuu just... happens to be tolerable to be around." Giyuu smirked and leaned closer to Sanemi, deliberately making him more flustered.

"Tolerable? Is that what we're calling it now?" Sanemi sputtered indignantly, trying to maintain his tough facade while avoiding eye contact with everyone. "Shut up! You know what I mean!" Mitsuri squealed with delight at their interaction, while Obanai shook his head with a small smile. "You two are worse than we are sometimes. At least we're honest about being in love." Giyuu wrapped an arm around Sanemi's shoulders, clearly enjoying his boyfriend's embarrassment.

"I don't know, Obanai. Sanemi just has trouble expressing his feelings. Like when he was trying to decide which cat toy to buy." Sanemi attempted to shrug Giyuu off but didn't actually push him away.

"I was being practical! The jingle ball had better sound effects than the feather stick." Mitsuri clapped her hands excitedly.

"A cat? You're getting a cat together? That's so adorable!" Sanemi immediately regretted his words as Mitsuri's eyes lit up with even more enthusiasm. "Yes, we're getting a cat. And it's going to be the most terrifying cat in existence."

Giyuu chuckled and squeezed Sanemi's shoulder. "He means it will be very unique and well-loved. We're thinking of adopting from a shelter." Obanai raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by Sanemi's attempt to maintain his tough image. "A terrifying cat, huh? Sounds like you two." Mitsuri clapped her hands again, nearly bouncing out of her seat.

"I want to help! I know all the best shelters in the city! We could make it a double date - you two shopping for your cat, and me and Obanai finding a shelter to visit!"

Sanemi groaned dramatically, but there was a hint of interest in his eyes. "Great. Now we're going to have pink disaster energy following us around while we pick out our demon cat." Giyuu smiled at Mitsuri's enthusiasm, knowing Sanemi secretly appreciated the offer. "That actually sounds nice. We could use your expertise, Mitsuri." Obanai pulled his mask up higher, trying to hide his reddening face. "Mitsuri, it's not a double date. We're just... helping them."

Mitsuri leaned over and whispered loudly enough for everyone to hear. "But it could be! Don't you want to spend more time with our friends, Obanai?" Sanemi smirked at Obanai's discomfort, finding his reaction hilarious. "Looks like someone's shy about being seen in public with their girlfriend." Obanai shot Sanemi a warning glare, his cheeks still flushed. "Shut it, windbag. I'm not shy, I just prefer quiet outings." Mitsuri pouted again, though her eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Quiet? Like that time we went to the haunted house and you screamed like a little girl?"

Sanemi nearly choked on his water from laughing. "HA! The snake boy screams like a girl? Now that's gold!" Obanai's face turned even redder as he slammed his hand on the table. "I did not scream! That was... a tactical sound of surprise." Mitsuri giggled uncontrollably, clearly enjoying embarrassing her boyfriend. "Whatever you say, my brave warrior. Just admit you got scared and we can move on."

Sanemi wiped tears of laughter from his eyes, thoroughly enjoying Obanai's predicament.

"Oh, this is better than any cat toy we could buy. I'm telling everyone about this." Obanai's eye twitched dangerously as he glared at Sanemi. "You better not, or I'll tell everyone about how you cried during that horror movie last week."

Sanemi's laughter immediately stopped, his face paling slightly. "That was... different! And you promised to keep that a secret!" Giyuu smirked knowingly, having been there for that particular incident. "Oh? Now this is getting interesting." Mitsuri gasped dramatically, her eyes wide with delight.

"Sanemi cried? I need details! Was it during the part with the ghost bride?" Sanemi looked absolutely betrayed, turning to Giyuu with a pleading expression. "Don't you dare say anything, Tomioka. I swear I'll never help you pick cat food again." Giyuu pretended to consider this threat seriously, but his eyes were dancing with amusement. "That's a tough decision... watching Sanemi cry or getting free cat food." Sanemi crossed his arms and slumped in his seat, clearly outnumbered. "You're all terrible friends. I hate all of you." Mitsuri reached across the table to pat Sanemi's head sympathetically.

"Aw, don't pout! We still love you even if you're scared of ghosts." Obanai smirked, finally getting his revenge. "And now we have blackmail material for years to come." Giyuu kissed his boyfriend's cheek. Sanemi's pout instantly melted away, replaced by a deep blush as he shot Giyuu a betrayed look.

"Oi! Not in front of them!" Mitsuri cooed at the display of affection, while Obanai rolled his eyes but couldn't hide his small smile. "Look who's getting all flustered now. Maybe we should start calling you 'Scaredy-Sanemi' instead."
