Chapter 53 - Shopping time

"What should we show next? Maybe the one where she tried to rescue that cat and fell in the river?" Mitsuri's eyes widened in horror as she heard Sanemi's suggestion. "No! That one's worse! Please, I'll do anything!" Giyuu raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her desperation. "Anything? That's a dangerous offer, Mitsuri." Sanemi leaned against Giyuu, looking thoughtful. "Hmm... what should our desperate little friend do to save these photos from being shared?" Obanai awkwardly cleared his throat, trying to regain composure.

"Let's just... move on from the photos. We should probably finish shopping." Mitsuri nodded vigorously, grateful for the distraction. "Yes! Shopping! Let's focus on the cat things instead. The really important things." Sanemi smirked knowingly at their discomfort, but decided to drop the subject for now. "Fine, but we're definitely talking about this later. With details."

Obanai shot Sanemi a warning look while Mitsuri pretended to be fascinated by a cat bed. "There's nothing to talk about. Right, Mitsuri?" Mitsuri nodded too quickly, her voice slightly higher than normal. "Right! Nothing at all! Just normal friendship things." Sanemi exchanged an amused glance with Giyuu, clearly not buying their act. "Sure, whatever you say. But remember - I have those photos." Mitsuri grabbed a cat toy and started aggressively shaking it, clearly wanting to change the subject.

"Look at this! The cat will love this! Right, Giyuu?" Giyuu chuckled at her obvious distraction attempt. "Yes, very cute. Though not as cute as you trying to hide your relationship status." Sanemi grinned wickedly, enjoying the growing tension. "Speaking of cute, I think we should get matching bow ties for our cat and Mitsuri's boyfriend." Mitsuri nearly dropped the toy, her face turning bright red again.

"Sanemi! Stop it! You're being impossible!" Obanai buried his face in his hands, muttering something about regretting ever coming to the pet store. "Can we please just buy what we need and leave? The cat is going to get more mature than us at this rate." Sanemi laughed and pulled out his phone again. "Fine, but I'm sending these photos to the group chat later." Mitsuri gasped in horror and lunged for Sanemi's phone again.

"You wouldn't dare! I'll tell everyone about that time you cried watching Titanic!" Sanemi held the phone above his head, his eyes gleaming with challenge. "Try me. Besides, I was watching it ironically." Obanai looked between them, clearly exhausted by the whole situation. "Can we please focus on getting out of here before we cause a scene? The pet store manager is already giving us weird looks."

The pet store manager did indeed look concerned as Mitsuri and Sanemi continued their standoff. Sanemi noticed the manager approaching and quickly lowered his phone. "Alright, alright. I'll behave... for now." Mitsuri let out a relieved sigh, straightening her clothes. "Thank goodness. Now can we actually shop like normal people?" Giyuu smirked, picking up a small cat toy.

"Normal? With this group? That's adorable." The manager finally approached their group, looking relieved to see some semblance of order.

"Can I help you all find anything specific for your cat?" Mitsuri smiled sweetly at the manager, completely ignoring Sanemi's mischievous expression. "Yes! We need everything! Food, toys, beds..." Sanemi leaned toward Giyuu and whispered loud enough for everyone to hear. "I still have those photos." The manager looked confused but maintained her professional smile.

Mitsuri shot Sanemi a warning glare before turning back to the manager with forced cheerfulness. "Ignore him, he's just being dramatic. Let's start with food - we need some premium cat food!" The manager nodded and led them toward the food section, clearly relieved to move away from Sanemi's antics. Sanemi followed behind, still grinning as he casually took photos of Mitsuri's attempts to act normal.

Giyuu wrapped his arms around Sanemi's waist from behind, resting his chin on Sanemi's shoulder. "Behave yourself, love. The poor manager looks like she's about to have a nervous breakdown." Sanemi leaned back into Giyuu's embrace, his camera lowering slightly. "I can't help it. Their reactions are too entertaining." He turned his head to nuzzle against Giyuu's cheek, momentarily distracted from his teasing.

Mitsuri rolled her eyes at the display of affection while selecting different brands of cat food. "Get a room, you two! We're supposed to be shopping." Sanemi stuck his tongue out at her playfully before whispering to Giyuu. "She's just jealous because Obanai won't cuddle her in public." Obanai choked slightly on air at the comment, while Giyuu chuckled against Sanemi's neck. Mitsuri huffed and threw a bag of cat food into their cart.

"I am not jealous! And Obanai is right here!" Obanai shifted uncomfortably, clearly wanting to disappear as Sanemi continued his teasing. "Right where he's always been - lurking in the background. How romantic." Giyuu kissed Sanemi's cheek softly. "Leave them alone, darling. Let's focus on finding the perfect cat bed." Sanemi sighed dramatically but allowed Giyuu to guide him toward the bedding section."Fine, fine. But I still want details about Obanai's lurking habits."Obanai groaned audibly while Mitsuri quickly changed the subject.

"Look at these beds! They're so cozy! What do you think, Giyuu?" Giyuu examined the beds thoughtfully, still keeping an arm around Sanemi's waist. "This one seems nice. Soft but not too fluffy." Mitsuri pulled out a plush cat bed covered in tiny snake patterns. "This one would be perfect for your snake! It even has a little hidey-hole!" Sanemi burst out laughing at the irony of the snake bed. "Perfect indeed! Though I'm not sure our snake needs help hiding from us." Giyuu shook his head with an amused smile, running his fingers through Sanemi's hair.

"We'll take it. And maybe something less... on-the-nose for the cat." Mitsuri pouted slightly but put the snake bed back. "Fine, but we should get a cat tree too! And a scratching post!" Sanemi perked up at the mention of the scratching post. "Now you're talking! I want one that looks like it belongs in a dungeon." Giyuu gave him a knowing look. "No medieval torture devices for our cat, love." Mitsuri led them to a section with more conventional cat accessories.

"How about this? It's simple but functional." Sanemi picked up a sleek black cat tower with platforms and dangling toys. "This one looks like something out of a horror movie. I love it!" Giyuu examined the price tag and sighed. "It's expensive, but I suppose our cat deserves the best. Plus, it'll keep him entertained when he's bored of watching us."
