THORNE
My heart lurched when she turned to face me because something was different and every wrong.
There was nothing in her expression, it was blank as she stared at me like she was looking past me and not at me.
"Althea?" I called, trying to reach her wherever she had gone.
"This is goodbye," She finally spoke, her voice lacking any inflection.
My chest caved in and I found myself giggling nervously as a horrible chill rippled through my spine. "What are you saying, Althea? We can go home—"
"I am not coming, Thorne." The dispassion in her voice gutted me, dread washing over me until I was drowning in it.
But I just laughed louder even as my lungs screamed from the strain. I could only laugh because if I let my guard down I would scream instead.
