Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 Who Cares About That Broken Box?

Establish an organization to manufacture bio-viruses and make a fortune!

Wilfer's suggestion intrigued Matt. It was indeed a way to get rich in this world—just look at the power of bio-viruses!

A city could fall just like that; how could such a powerful thing not sell?

However, Thorn deeply hated bio-viruses and wanted to hand Wilfer over to the authorities to face due punishment. Matt found this laughable.

Before setting off, Matt used the enhancement serum while Thorn was clearing zombies.

Although the process of using it was different from what he had imagined—his initial plan was for White Curtain to use it first to confirm its safety before they used it themselves—White Curtain wasn't entirely trusting of the enhancement serum.

With Thor present, they couldn't easily threaten White Curtain. Matt chose to bypass this process and use the enhancement serum because Wilfer's suggestion had truly moved him.

He didn't let his underling Buddy try it. This was an opportunity beyond ordinary people, which meant taking risks, but for a better future, Matt tried it.

If he gets into trouble, Wilfer won't survive either!

The enhancement potion is incredibly effective. Even if, as Wilfer said, it can't reach Thor's level, Thor's physical abilities throughout the journey still make Matt envious.

He carries heavier loads without fatigue, moves nimbly, has incredible regenerative abilities, and there's all the information Wilfer mentioned before, like the theoretical maximum lifespan of the human body.

Matt asked Wilfer and got the answer: over 150 years old—that's incredibly tempting.

The enhancement potion is very effective; it takes about four hours to achieve the initial expected results, and twelve hours to reach the optimal effect.

After all, it's a specially formulated virus, so the effects are milder, hence the longer enhancement time. Even so, Matt is still very satisfied.

Since setting off, he can feel his strength constantly increasing, and his eyesight has also improved. He just gets hungry faster, but Matt is perfectly accepting of that.

Rapid physical enhancement requires sufficient nutrients, and Wilfer, to survive and avoid falling into the hands of the local authorities, certainly didn't lie to them.

Matt planned to find an opportunity to distract Thor and then escape with Wilfer, pretending to be survivors in the city.

A car wasn't a problem; Wilfer could drive.

As for White Curtain… if he wanted to leave with Thor, he'd be lucky. If he stayed, they'd see what his attitude was. If he didn't join or hesitated, they'd kill him!

Matt's rapid increase in strength had made him a little arrogant.

"There are too many zombies on this road; we need to take a detour," Thor said, slowing the car and looking at the zombies ahead.

"How about this way?" White Curtain pulled out a grenade. "We're getting out of here; no need to conserve ammo, right?"

  "Throw it further,"

  Thor said helplessly.

White Curtain grinned excitedly, opened the car door, pulled the pin on the grenade, and threw it far away. Thor immediately accelerated.

The grenade exploded dozens of meters away, the loud noise causing the zombies on the street to riot and rush towards the source of the sound.

"Is it another survivor?" The five-man escape team perked up immediately upon hearing the grenade explosion.

They recognized the sound; they had carried grenades when they formed the Seven Rich Men, and had used them in the past couple of days. However, if they didn't quickly move away from the area afterward, they would face even more zombies.

"Too far." One of them shook his head. They were escaping for their lives; how could they possibly go in circles to find survivors far away? They were being chased and ambushed by zombies the whole way; if they didn't hurry, they'd be walking into a mushroom cloud.

While zombies were slow at a distance, they were incredibly fast at close range!

On the other side of the white screen, the noise from the grenade had attracted the zombies' attention, but Thorn remained vigilant while driving. Zombies had a good sense of smell, and some of them followed the sound and started chasing them.

Thorn was driving; it was an extended version, so they weren't cramped inside. Matt, in the back seat, kept stuffing high-energy food into his mouth, while Buddy observed the outside world through the window.

In the middle row, Wilfer sat next to a box of vaccines, looking quite relaxed.

Beside him, Bai Mu fumbled in his backpack, seemingly about to throw another grenade. Wilfer glanced at him and then looked away. To be honest, he didn't have a very good impression of this young man who was so close to Thorn.

Especially since this guy had initially planned to blow up the safe house door!

As Wilfer looked away, Bai Mu suddenly pulled out something he had prepared beforehand from his backpack, tied a high-strength strap around Wilfer's arm, and, to his astonishment, kicked open the slightly ajar car door, throwing Wilfer out.

Close behind was the box containing the vaccines, which Bai Mu released as smoothly as possible. The process wasn't exactly fluid, but it was so sudden that the gunman Eller in the front seat and Matt and the others in the back didn't even have time to react.

Wilfer, thrown from the car, was stunned. Although he wasn't dead, he was temporarily incapacitated, and the zombies were drawn to him.

Wilfer frantically pulled at the grenade he couldn't pull off, still gripped by intense terror when it exploded.

  "What are you doing!"

  Matt roared, his eyes bloodshot.

"The box is fine," Bai Mu shouted, holding a briefcase containing research data in one hand, his agitation bordering on abnormal.

The box was fine? Matt's expression twisted even more. Was that what he cared about? Who cared about that broken box! He cared about Wilfer!

Even if the box containing the vaccines was still intact, even if Wilfer had lied to them, Wilfer was gone. How could he build that lucrative organization now?

"We'll talk about that later, let's get the boxes back first." Thorn, driving, rammed into a car blocking their path and turned the car around.

The exploding grenade cleared some of the zombies, allowing them to retrieve the boxes. The boxes had some scratches on the surface, but were otherwise intact.

Wilfer's claim that the boxes exploded ten meters apart from the person was just a hoax.

After retrieving the boxes and shaking off the pursuing zombies, Bai Mu remained calm despite Matt's murderous expression; he was in a good mood.

Matt's agitated state, however, made Bai Mu think of a possibility: had this guy perhaps made some kind of shady deal with Wilfer?

Thinking this, he stood behind Thorn with the two boxes in his hand.

Gunman Eller quickly made a new decision, siding with Thor.

Wilfer was dead, so his original plan was meaningless. He already had the enhancement potion, and he wasn't as obsessed with Wilfer as he was with Matt.

Those caught in the alternate dream might not be able to stay here indefinitely, and Eller wasn't sure how long. To be on the safe side, and given that Matt had already used his enhancement potion, he planned to use his own as soon as possible.

"Calm down, Wilford, who lied to us, is dead," Eller reminded Matt, not wanting to be implicated by Matt's anger.

Matt, panting heavily, suppressed his rage and looked at Thorn, his expression gradually calming: "Phew~ I got carried away. I just didn't expect this guy to do something like this to his fellow survivors!"

"You consider someone from a terrorist organization a partner?"

White Curtain asked Matt with a smile. Since things had come to this point, he wasn't going to be polite to Matt.

Matt's expression changed slightly, his face turning cold as he said, "You're trying to justify intentional murder! Captain Thorn, I don't trust this guy. I demand to get off the vehicle near the rendezvous point!"

  Thorn nodded: "Alright then."

  "..."
