Aiden stopped Cedric Diggory again when they were still more than ten meters from the bathroom door.
There was almost no movement inside now. Aiden guessed that the massive Basilisk and Ginny Weasley had already entered the Chamber of Secrets.
What they needed to do next was simple—wait quietly.
"Bang!"
A loud explosion suddenly echoed in front of them, followed by a cloud of dust and scattered debris.
"Cough, cough… cough, cough…"
Covering his mouth and nose, Aiden squinted, trying to see through the dust toward the bathroom.
A flash of emerald green mixed with black appeared.
And this time, it was far larger than before.
Two dim, yellow glowing lights slowly emerged from the dust-filled passage.
Aiden's face turned pale.
"Close your eyes."
"Close your eyes."
He immediately shut his own eyes and pointed his wand toward the Basilisk.
"Diffindo."
The moment he cast the spell, Aiden didn't hesitate. He grabbed Cedric and ran.
After only a short distance, Aiden suddenly felt resistance ahead.
Then—
A scream.
He was thrown backward and hit the ground, his head spinning.
"Who is it?"
"Stupefy."
Aiden reacted instantly, shouting while casting the spell without hesitation.
The other person clearly hadn't expected such a fast response. They were struck directly by the Stupefy spell and collapsed.
"Cedric, don't look back. You can open your eyes now. Look at the person in front—we need to leave immediately."
Cedric didn't argue. He stepped forward toward the fallen figure.
The person's hand had slipped out from beneath an Invisibility Cloak, making it easy to locate him.
Cedric pulled off the cloak.
"Harry!"
"What?"
Aiden froze for a moment, then saw Harry Potter lying unconscious on the ground.
"Damn it."
His expression darkened instantly.
In this situation, he couldn't even guarantee his own safety or Cedric's—let alone Harry's.
If Harry died here…
Aiden could already imagine how furious Albus Dumbledore would be.
Without wasting time, Aiden cast a Blinding Spell behind him to stall the Basilisk.
He rushed forward and lifted one side of Harry's body onto his shoulder. Cedric quickly helped, taking the other side.
Cedric also grabbed Harry's Invisibility Cloak from the ground.
"Go!"
They didn't need to say anything else. Carrying Harry, they ran forward.
But with the extra weight, they couldn't move fast enough.
At this rate, the Basilisk would catch them.
"Cedric, take Harry and keep going. Find a Professor and tell them everything."
"What about you, Aiden? Aren't you coming with us?"
Cedric already understood what this meant.
"Someone has to cover our retreat, Cedric. Otherwise, we all die."
Aiden looked directly into Cedric's eyes and gave a faint smile.
He wasn't trying to sacrifice himself.
He had a plan.
Ginny Weasley—controlled by Tom Riddle's diary—had clearly discovered them. That was why the Basilisk had attacked.
Which meant Ginny was nearby.
Against a first-year student, even one controlled by Tom Riddle, Aiden was confident he could hold her off for a while.
Another Blinding Spell shot behind him, further disrupting the Basilisk.
Cedric stared at him, then nodded.
He chose to trust Aiden.
"Be careful. I'll get a Professor."
"Trust me."
After a brief exchange, Cedric shifted Harry fully onto himself. He placed the Invisibility Cloak into Aiden's hands, then turned and ran without looking back.
At that moment, the Basilisk caught up.
Aiden's expression hardened.
"Hey! I'm over here!"
He shouted loudly, flicking his wand to cast another spell.
It had no real effect on the Basilisk's scales.
It was like scratching it.
But that wasn't the point.
Aiden only needed to draw its attention.
"Yeah, that's it. Come on—follow me."
Judging by the sound behind him, he could estimate the distance between them.
Cedric ran into the left passage.
Aiden chose the right.
Within seconds, the Basilisk's enormous body reached the intersection and followed Aiden without hesitation.
A few seconds later, once the Basilisk disappeared into the corridor—
Aiden, who had been hiding nearby, removed the Invisibility Cloak.
He stared calmly in the direction the Basilisk had gone, his wand steady in his hand.
Then he turned and walked back the way he had come.
His heart pounded wildly.
Excitement surged through him.
Soon, he would face the former Dark Lord—now Tom Riddle.
Even as a fragment of a soul within a Horcrux, Tom Riddle was still at his most intelligent and dangerous.
